My thanks to the Model E Comms team for getting me all set for our new road trip.

A few days ago this installed:

I've started this thread specifically for posting on experiences charging at Tesla Superchargers.

There are a few others on here who have taken delivery of their adapters (or pick them up in person today) thanks to the Model E Comms Team. We'll be charging at our first SuperCharger around lunch time.

Looks like all the Tesla chargers around me are up to 150kw. I guess the adapter will be completely useless for me. :rolleyes:

Looks like all the Tesla chargers around me are up to 150kw. I guess the adapter will be completely useless for me. :rolleyes:
The primary use case for DCFC vs AC is road trips, so what matters more is if there are v3 chargers along your route not at home.

Unfortunately it looks like there is no mechanical lock to secure this adapter to either the Tesla cable or to the car. Grrr... I tend to amble about while DC Fast charging, and often the dog needs a walk as well.

...although Ford Corporate did write somewhere that they are looking at adding lockability (NFI).

it's a shame, since TeslaTap solved this little problem years ago, sigh. At $230 a pop (if stolen), hey... just sayin'.

Great news, looking forward to updates.

Now, at the risk of sounding completely ignorant............................Do I have to activate Plug and Charge and go through FordPass to use this adapter?

I currently EA and have their app rather than going through Ford. Should I switch?

There's a FAQ posted on a couple of the other threads, but you have 2 options: use P&C OR activate it through fordpass/car app.

Thanks I'll look for those posts. Sounds like It may be easier for me to just consolidate rather than using several apps

Yes, I would expect the Tesla app to work as well, but that will take someone with an adapter trying it to confirm.

Exactly! That's about as easy and seamless an experience as we could have hoped, and all in one shot instead of a phased approach. Obviously all the backend work is done, and now it's a case of waiting for Tesla's manufacturer to get them to Ford.

I fully expect Ford's estimates on delivery to be conservative (for good reason), but we'll see.

I was curious about that. thanks for sharing. Worst case if it is stolen a bunch of tesla's will likely be nearby, I am sure they will share the video with you :p

The most important question is, can these adapters be unplugged on the NACS side while we're charging. It looks like all it is is a lever to release the charging handle. Could some salty Tesla owner pull up to the left of a Mach E and steal the charger by unplugging it from the adapter? Obviously the adapter stays plugged into the Mach E with a lock so they can't take that, but could they take the charging cable to do their own supercharging...

That should not be possible for safety reasons. When the car locks the CCS side latch, that has to internally also lock the NACS to CCS latch in the adapter. There is no way that Tesla did not address this in the adapter design, they did it for the Magic Docks.

But since Ford has the stop charging button at the port on the car, another driver could push that button, then pull the NACs out of the adapter.
