Trailer hitch Damage to Front Below Bumper??

I think I got this damage after leaving my GT in a parallel parking spot and someone in front backed into the car with a trailer hitch. Any comments? Thanks.

Yikes, that's like a $3000 insurance claim. Could have also been a rock strike while driving.

Food for thought! If it was back into that claim summited to insurance is Collison and rates may go up. Moving Road debris hitting is comprehensive and will not increase your insurance.

I suppose I should take the panel off and look for a rock inside! ? I will report the result of that search.

That's how insurance works. If any claim happens that makes you more likely for more claims, at least in their eyes. Especially since You park in areas more likely to encounter shit drivers and parallel park in tight areas.

Hmmm, maybe in Colorado. In California if your car is legally parked and someone backs into you you'll not be considered at fault and your rates will not go up.

I remember seeing someone exiting their SUV and noting that they'd installed some sort of after-market 1-inch square steel tube bumper extension, sticking out 6-inches front and rear. When asked about it, they said they lived in NYC where parallel parking is routinely challenging and that folks bumping into you is a daily parking experience. It would ruin the look of a MME, but I can see the utility.

I absolutely hate people who ride around with hitches installed in their vehicle as a precaution to damage to their vehicle. In an accident it likely would do little to protect their vehicle but definitely inflicts major damage on the following car. Also, detrimental to shins when walking behind a parked vehicle. Grrr!

I never intentionally keep the hitch on my truck, but I'm very absent-minded and often find that I forgot to pull it off. Whenever I notice that, I remove it and toss it in the bed of the truck.

But I do sometimes miss it.

It might be too low from trailer hitch on a normal size truck. AOSK has the whole car 3D scan and they are willing to share the files. 3D print and black spray paint might be an alternative option.

I would consider that lucky there will be no paint work required. Isn't that panel a separate piece from the bumper cover or will the entire thing need to be replaced?
