Anyone else having trouble with this?

I switched my settings to charge 9pm-7am about two months ago. It works most of the time, but about once a week it will just start charging immediately when it is plugged in. In FordPass it shows its location as "Home" so it doesn't seem to be a location issue.

My charger doesn't have a time setting option for me to control it that way, unfortunately.

Seeing a few other posts with what sounds like similar issues, anyone else having trouble?

My EVSE is set to always on, with the car set to start at 9pm.
When I plug in, the EVSE relay will close and it will deliver power for a second or so, then the car stops it.
The charger still says “charging” in the app, but at 0.0kW
What does FordPass say while it’s charging?

It is definitely charging, charge rate 1kW (level 1 charger).

Discussed often.

If it determines it cannot hit your target level during the hours specified, it will start right away. Level 1 charging often results in this.

Here is how to lock in your hours: https://amzn.to/3PSvxUr

Thanks, that explains it. I hadn't seen this discussed. For some reason my target level time estimate had been way off (incorrectly short) for the past few months and it was suddenly more accurate a few weeks ago... and it must be those days when I wouldn't reach it that it is starting right away.

I will pick up something to make my dumb charger smart.

Check out Qmerit.com. With a few pictures, they can tell you how much it would cost to install either a NEMA 14-50 outlet or a hardwired Level 2 charger.
It’s so much neater and faster, and you can get rebates for 30% or more of the cost (depending on where you live.)
I went with a hardwired ChargePoint Home Flex and I just plug in when I get home. Other than checking the report showing how much I spent recharging the car each month, I haven’t had to think about it once.

Thanks, but I have a detached garage and a full panel. I did get a quote from my electrician, it was going to be over $7000 and that was without excavating a trench (which would require a complete reworking of a patio and landscaping). I have been level 1 charging for over 3 years, it works well with my 25 miles of driving a day for my commute. The off peak charging is a new twist that i am sorting through.
