When the frunk is open, the car lights stay off. This is not OK!

I think they already have a fix for this lined up, they will just deactivate the ability to open the frunk remotely, forcing the user to open the driver door to open the frunk.

I'm lucky, I actually have had this feature on mine since 2021!
U got me crying over here!!!!

I think OP sort of has a point. I don’t think it’s standard or required for the vehicle lights to come on when the hood is open, but I don’t think it would hurt. Especially with the hood up, you can’t see traffic coming from the rear that well and having the vehicle lights automatically come on would show drivers that there is activity around the vehicle.

As someone who’s had to jump start my ICE Mustang a million times while parked on a street, sometimes cars blast past me when I am hidden behind the hood in a way they won’t when all the unlock lights are on.

I've had situations where I wanted extra lighting for safety, so I turned on the headlight switch. Doesn't the switch do what needs to be done?

Thank you! That’s the point I’m talking about!

My fault—I started the thread in a way that could be read as a complaint. I admire this approach. Let's shift the discussion towards how we can provide @Ford Motor Company with ideas to make our cars better and safer.

If you keep tagging them like that, they’re going to pop in here and ask for your VIN and dealership info.

I think you have to tag them three times in one post. Kinda like Beetlejuice.:crackup:

Yes and No. For those who use this feature yes, but not for others who turned off the welcome light, because of the battery drain when it's parked at home.
The amount of power drawn to do the welcome lights, and the frequency of it happening, is not enough to be concerned about if the car is driven or charged on a regular basis. And by that I mean at least once or twice a week. I think you are making a mountain out of a mole hill with that argument.

☝

That’s why better to keep this feature off.
Why? The feature provides exactly what you are clamoring for: illumination of the car at night when accessing the frunk. Where do you think the power for the illumination would be coming from in your scenario of having the illumniation on when accessing the frunk?

I've had my car for 2 years. The welcome lighting has been on the entire time. I have yet to suffer from a dead 12V battery because I walked past the car too many times before driving it, or recharging it.

For sure walking light fit well to my scenario but still ford didn’t think well about frunk/app workflow. Frunk is a storage compartment and I expect the similar behavior as a trunk.

Speaking about ford approach to the frunk workflow. Before starting my ride I hit remote start to activate climate control. Then press open frunk, which turn off climate control immediately. Why?! This doesn’t happen when I open the car or trunk from the app.

I suspect the person who was responsible for frunk development did his job very poorly or wasn’t confident that someone will use the frunk in real world.

Lights coming on with frunk open - probably not a bad idea. I like it.
Welcome lights seem to solve the problem a different way.
Disabling welcome lights seems to circumvent the fix to your problem - right?
If I were you, I’d leave the welcome lights on and then you’d have lights with frunk open. I think you’d be happier. I also don’t think that there’s significant battery drain issues with the welcome lights.

Personally, I find the car turns on the lights too often. Turning on climate for example...

I've started using the frunk regularly and noticed that the car lights stay off, whereas when I open the trunk, all the lights (daytime running, side, and rear) turn on. I don't think this is okay. For safety reasons, I believe the lights should also turn on when using the frunk. Hey, @Ford Motor Company, what are your thoughts?
Do you really want the headlights on, blinding you, when you are in the frunk?

I'm not sure I follow, what is the safety issue here?
If you stop in the middle of a dark road to get a “road soda” out of the frunk, you could get smashed by an 18 wheeler.
