It doesn't provide any options for different chargers, nor does it give any info about the charger.
You can set which networks you want to be preferred! On your phone:
  1. Open Maps.
  2. Tap on your profile photo.
  3. Tap "Vehicles"
  4. Tap on the vehicle(s) you want to set settings for.
From here you can add network or tap "Edit" to remove any currently listed.

Also note that Maps does take availability in account for networks that have endpoints to poll status. Of course, Maps can only go by what the network providers say. That said, Maps saved me from going getting stuck at a fully broken EA station just this last weekend.

Is there some sort of navigation or vehicle notification indicating that pre conditioning has begun within the 20ish miles from the DCFC?
Sorry, I should have been more clear.

Preconditioning the battery prior to a DCFC can significantly increase charging speed. So if that feature requires a paid subscription, I am likely paying (or using points like Joe did). And using the Nav to add chargers on a trip is also a useful feature I wouldn't want to lose.

You lose the option to select the charger from the navigation itself. If you select a destination that requires charging, it will add the charge stops for you. Just not the charge speed you might want. I did a test from Boston to Orlando, and it has me stopping from 14 hours for charging. It only selected one EA charger for the entire route. There are plenty of road trip planers for EVs. But if you want to use the build in navigation, pay for it so you can adjust the setting to only give you fast chargers for your route.

The best preconditioning I got was when I went to a Fast Charger for 7 minutes early in trip and hammered on it for 200 km and charged to 80%. Over my 2000 plus km road trip I couldn’t really see that the nav system was helping. For this generation of Fords and the flat conservative charging curve, I’d say just keep the $80 US once it expires. I played with Google, Apple and Ford’s nav and liked Apple the best and there didn’t seem to be much of a price once you warmed up the battery for the day.

That's too bad, but I don't blame Ford for going after the recurring revenue. It's a smart business decision.

The built-in navigation is very convenient. It shows you the expected SoC at each destination point. I could preselect the charger I want to go to and just navigate to that, and I'm sure the car will tell me the SoC at that destination, but it's much more convenient just to use the Ford nav. I guess I am paying.

Did not pay for it. Haven't missed it yet. I use Android Auto for everything and never even think about the built in. Public charging seems to still work which was my only worry.

How do you determine the estimated charge at your destination, so you know if you can make it or not? Or are you not going far enough to worry about it?

I do 98% f my charging at home. On the rare occasion when I charge elsewhere its just because I'm far enough from home that it would be nice to top off, There is a charger at my destination, and I am still trying to use up my free credits from Ford. I am planning a longer trip in a few months so I may just pay when I know I am going to need it. I need it so infrequently that it would be nice if they had a per use or monthly fee but $80/year isn't bad since most years I wont need it at all and wont have to pay. I think I'll experiment with Apple maps on the upcoming trip too. If it fills the need then I'll forgo the built in Nav

You can also try something called ABRP ( a better route planner). They are great in planning road trips for EVs. But live navigation would also cost you a few bucks. Also, I don’t think 3rd party apps know which Tesla chargers are open to us for now.

Yeah Ive used ABRP occasionally. Ive yet to find an app that provides all the features that would make this process seamless. They all seem to have different weakness and strengths.

My Apple Maps always tells me ending location soc. I even watch in real time as it adjusts itself based on conditions and my driving. Edit, you need to specifically set up your Apple Maps for EVs and your vehicle.

I've had the free connected navigation for the past three years but my free ride just expired. Im not completely clear on what I have lost yet. It appears I can't plan or program any trips from within the FordPass app now. I know I lose traffic and weather. Still trying to figure out if I can do route planning and accurate charging station info for those rare long trips. I'm thinking I may just hold out and pay the $80 when and if I head out on a long trip but may try without it to see what I really miss
I have relied on ford nav since 2013 with no issues. I payed the $80 bucks. If you worried about the value, think about like this. It's the cost of one less cup of Starbucks a month.

The only time I use the Ford Nav is when I am on road trips and need to see SOC to next destination. Once Android Auto has that integrated, I won't use Ford Nav anymore. I have 2 years left on the trial, so provided they get the Android Auto thing rolled out by then, I won't renew. I recently bought an ICE backup/road trip vehicle that also uses it, and since there is no SOC on that vehicle, I definitely won't renew that one when it expires.

you'll lose real time info and also not get updates for roads and such. To avoid paying the $80 I traded my mache at 2.5 yrs for a gt and now I've got another three free years !! :)
