The OP gets it. Part of being a Mustang owner is seeing what you can do to your car to give it that personal touch and then show it to your buddies who could probably care less, but you’re showing them anyway.

Well done.

I pulled the tub, cut the cord to the useless light and added my frunk lights…frights?

I haven’t gotten to the rear lights yet. Maybe I’ll gain some inspiration when you finish.

Thanks, Spence. Here's some inspiration for the rear lights...

Cool mod and good write-up --- interested to know a couple things, if possible:

1) How long can the 12V battery power the ring lights? Just curious for power draw and how long you would have before the 12V is drained if the limit switch stops working or loses contact.
2) Given #1 scenario is there any way you would know from the driver seat that the frunk light is on when it's not supposed to be? (I would guess we have no access to any such info without a data tap of some kind)

1) The 12V battery is a 35 amp hour battery and the halo lights draw about 400 milliamps, so in theory over 70 hours. But I added a switch to the lights themselves so that I'm not generally relying on the cutoff switch and also in case I needed to leave the hood open for an extended period. For me, I'm comfortable with this.

2) You could theoretically run a wire back from the positive wire of lights back down the hood hinge then through the firewall and under the dash to a single LED that would be on whenever the underwood lights are on. (Only a single wire is needed because you can easily get ground from under the dash.) Alternatively you could potentially try putting some sort of bluetooth device powered by the underhood light circuit and then detect it with your phone, but I've no idea if the Bluetooth signal would reliably get from under the hood to wherever you want to detect it with your phone.

Alternatively, you can do what I do which is a) turn on the lights using the underhood switch (next to the driver light) when I need them, and b) adjust the cutoff switch to make sure it works properly (not difficult to do). It is a normally open switch so I think it's unlikely that it would fail closed.

Have fun with whatever you decide. If you're interested in adding lights and you're worried about something going wrong, I'd suggest you go with the "tap light" approach instead.

Frunk Lighting

IMG_3373.jpeg

I am not a big fan of the OEM light in the frunk. Its location inside the frunk tub means that if you keep a lot of things in your frunk like I do, items close to the light can easily shadow items further away. So I decided to add lights to the underside of the hood. I chose two halo lights because I didn’t want single light sources that would cast shadows while I am digging……...
Cool mode and thanks for idea to add lights to frunk, really needed. But I choose lazy way, ordered from Amazon and installed today:
