2021 Mach E premium awd Ext recall 23S56/23V687

The technician was pressure testing my Mach E to complete the recall work while it was on the lift and was entering information into his computer, with his back turned to the car and one of Ford's special jacking blocks did a flop. Down she came, both front fenders, all four doors, both rocker panels and both quarter panels damaged. They haven't moved it yet so the battery could be involved also. Nobody got hurt, the most important part.

Yikes. The jack blocks are pretty narrow (about 2” wide), so it can hard to get enough of the lift on there when the lift pucks are like 5” circles. The design is a little sketchy.

Hopefully Ford takes care of you, but it could be totaled if it’s bad enough.

The bad part is this was my retirement car, 19,000 miles and payed for. Now I'm concerned about how much this will cost me to replace it.

The dealer should make you whole again with a replacement Mach E of similar mileage and condition. I don't see why you'd have to pay out of pocket for any of it.

Two things - Ask the dealer GM for a replacement vehicle which is both newer and lower milage. Because of diminished value, do not settle for a dealer repair job. The servicing dealer should pay for their mistake by getting you into something better. If they have something on their lot which you think is equal or better, tell them that exchanging your crumpled vehicle for the better one is the only soultion which will make you happy.

Also, who can I trust to jack up my car? I was planning on getting replacement tires from a Ford dealer because they should know how to jack up a Ford. Perplexing.

With the proper equipment, there shouldn't be any more risk putting a Mach-E on the lift than any other typical vehicle.
Or put another way, Mach-E's are put on lifts all over the world every day. If they were slipping/falling, it wouldn't be something that could be kept quiet.

Human error or faulty equipment. And really lousy misfortune for the owner.

That would be nice, the dealer is blaming the jacking block and they are waiting for a Ford rep to look at it before they move it. If it's the dealerships fault they want to take it to the body shop, I told them no way this car is totaled and I want a new car. If Ford takes the blame then maybe a new one could be in the works. Hopefully I don't have to get an attorney!

If you are in Michigan here is what my insurance agent said. "It's in their care, custody and control so it's their negligence and they (dealer or insurance) would be responsible for the damages." You would only get the market value of the car though.

Since are in Pennsylvania your mileage may vary. I wouldn't mind knowing the results when everything gets figured out.

I got a tire patched at my Ford dealer and the technician who did it was telling me he had to look up how to lift the car because they weren't sure.

Didn't instill much confidence.

Then when I ended up getting new tires I took it to Costco and I asked them to let me show them the jack points when I saw them through the glass looking puzzled and asking their colleagues where to lift from. They seemed happy to have my guidance as I had previously made sure I knew the jack points due to the Ford dealer situation.

TLDR: doesn't matter where you take it, make sure you show them the jack points so you feel more comfortable.

You should demand a brand new car from Ford and the dealership! Simply that. They must have lots of cars stuck at their patio anyways…

I was really hoping something like that happened with mine ?
Then I could demand a 2024 MME with similar spec and most of the design flaws of first year models fixed.

But you never know what can happen on the next recall right? So keeping my hopes high still…
