SSM 52574 - Vehicles Equipped with SYNC4 - Intermittent Symptoms After All Available Software Updates Performed - Awareness of Solutions Being Developed

Some vehicles equipped with SYNC4 may exhibit one or more of the following symptoms after all currently available accessory protocol interface module (APIM) software updates have been performed.
- General system performance, stability, and intermittent system reboots.
- Intermittent Wireless CarPlay or Android Auto function.
- Phone related concerns with intermittent No Audio or Static.
- Navigation/global positioning system (GPS) related concerns through CarPlay and Android Auto.
- Alexa function consistency and stability.

These symptoms may be due to the software in the APIM. Replacing the APIM will not resolve these symptoms for the customer. Before returning the vehicle to the customer, review the procedures within Workshop Manual, Section 415-00 and ensure the latest APIM software is installed. Refer to General Service Bulletin (GSB) 23-7146 for help determining the latest available level of software.

IMPORTANT: some module software updates will only display as available on Ford Diagnosis and Repair System (FDRS) after prerequisite modules areupdated. This may require the technician to update certain modules multiple times during the service visit, before the latest APIM software is accessible in FDRS.

If symptoms continue after latest APIM software has been installed, inform customers that Ford is working on additional software enhancements which are expected to be delivered over-the-air (OTA) by Q4 2024 on F-150, F-150 Lightning, Mustang Mach-E, Mustang, Escape, Corsair, Expedition, Navigator, Bronco, Mustang, and 2023-2024 F-Super Duty. Software will update automatically if vehicle connectivity is enabled in the vehicle's settings. For all other vehicles with SYNC4, schedule a service visit for customers in October 2024, when the updated APIM software is expected to be available to dealers. Monitor OASIS for additional information.

----End SSM----

Ford is finally addressing some of the SYNC 4 performance issues with an APIM update expected in October.

October. 4 or more months. Ridiculous. One trip it rebooted like 4 times in a day.

So I checked both vehicles, and NEITHER is at that Sync version. Both have issues - the Mach-E rebooting the display multiple times on a trip, and the Lightning freezing the display...

Now with the SSM, when each is next in the shop, I intend to get this done. It does say they may have to do other updates to get the latest APIM update to show, so there's that...

At 6.14.0, my car is sitting with Sync version 23352 on my 2021 GT. Unfortunately, I had the Android Auto connectivity issue hit on my car 2-3 times while on a total of roughly 2-2.5 hours' drives. To and from were over an hour. The ride out had AA Wireless crap out 1 time. The ride back, it happened at least twice, maybe three times. Fortunately, a quick reconnect in the car settings would bring AA Wireless back.

This has been an ongoing/long-running issue with the MME and my Android devices (the Galaxy S23U is 100% unreliable with MME's AA Wireless while my Google Pixel 8 Pro is.. let's call it 95% reliable in its connection to the car).

It's clear that Ford knows that it has a problem with wireless connectivity with phones (since they call out both CarPlay and AA wireless). I do hope that October really does bring a final fix for this problem. But I won't claim that I have "high hopes" for it. ;)

Now, that said, I cannot say that I have seen a reboot on the IPC lately, which has been a relief. So that might be some hope for your issue(s) being relieved with the current firmware updates?
