Curious if people turn them off or leave them on. Do they drain the 12 volt system in any way? I just left them on when I bought the car almost a year ago, now not sure wy - I don't care if someone walks next to the car. In fact probably don't want an alarm to go off in that situation.

Where did you get the idea that the motion sensors go off when someone walks next to the car?

I turn them off because I occasionally take the ferry and I’ve heard the motion sensors can be set off during the ferry ride.

Doesn’t help that every update resets my setting and turns the motion sensor back on

Ferry trips the inclination sensor.

The motion sensors are actually the interior motion sensors. They will trip if you shut the car down and leave a living being in the car if they move around. As Rick said, the inclination sensors are what trip on a ferry (or when you’re jacking the car - don’t ask how I know). ??

On my July '23 built MME, it always asks, when I turn the car off about some (?) sensors. If my wife stays in the car we say 'yes' to avoid the hullabaloo. And on our frequent ferry trips we say yes, and have never been summoned to turn off an alarm.

My stupidity. The illustration on the sync screen made it look thus. I am not at all sure why this is even included? How often does one need to see if someone entered surreptitiously and then moved around? I know the turn off motion sensors option is for pets, but I don't leave them in the car unattended anyway. In any case, as long as it does not drain the 12V I'm not concerned.

Every year, toddlers die because a distracted parent forgets they are there and leaves them in hot car.
A 1-year-old girl in New York died after her grandmother left her in the back seat of a car for eight hours while she went to work, police said.

The 54-year-old woman forgot to drop off the 14-month-old at day care on her way to work on Monday, the Suffolk County Police Department said in a news release.

“Approximately eight hours later, the woman went to pick up the child at the day care, located on Redwood Lane in Smithtown, when she realized she had left the child in her vehicle,” police said.

It could be a safety feature, TBH I think the weight sensors in this and may other newer cars might cover this.

The motion sensors are the worst! I can't roll my windows down in the garage with them on, or else walking by the car will set off the alarm. The number of times my car alarm has gone off because of me walking by the car is annoyingly high. The number of times it has gone off at 5am when everyone else is asleep is pretty high up their as well.

With that said, I have adapted, and if the windows are down before I walk near the car, I open the Ford Pass app and unlock the car before getting in. Still annoyed by them....end of my rant!

LOL - as I have said, I am still not 100% sure what purpose they serve other than to seem fancy. Don't see how they would prevent a theft that would not be covered by lock/door alarms, and how they would protect a forgotten occupant not covered by weight sensor. Anyway, not a huge bit deal.

Leave it unlocked when it's in your garage then.

At least on my car, you'd have to be walking really close to the window opening or practically leaning in to set it off. Walking past the car normally doesn't set it off.
