On my 2015 Explorer, the stalk returned to its original position and would cancel like any other car after a turn. For lane changes I would have to tap the stalk again to cancel.
For the MME, it would have been nice to have it function this way, that way BC can cancel it after the lane change.
I think the click that returns the stalk to its original position when completing a turn is mechanical. So, it wouldn't be possible to have a software trigger (BC) that does that part for you.
Maybe in a future model they will redesign the stalk in a way that it can be triggered electronically.

Isn't that exactly what the Mach-E, and every other car on the road, does? What is the difference you are pointing out? Sorry, I'm not trying to be dense...

That would make sense. I was fiddling with the stalk for automatic lane change myself when I borrowed a '23 last month. But if the 'hold for one blink' recommended in post #3 above works, that seems pretty acceptable already.

That’s what my rant is about. Why did they put a mechanical one in the MME.
See this for how the Explorer worked. The salesman doesn’t know how to use it. But you can see the stalk come back to original position while the turn signal remains on.

while looking for that video, I ran into this one. I wonder if that same setting works for the MME.

See the video I posted above. The turn signal stalk on my Explorer was digital. I could be cancel via software automatically without turning the wheel.

Ah, now I get it, thanks. Yes, Ford should have been a little more forward-thinking there.
