Plus one of the main reasons that this thing is perfect for our Stangs is because when my phone is not directly below the navigation screen the CarPlay and maps becomes super laggy and/or off centered.. if that makes sense

Has anyone received the "Free Replacement one from Ford" for completeing their HVJB Recall? Don't want to spend the $ if Ford's new one will be better. The originals just "Cook" my phone, to the point that the phone shuts down so it won't play on Sync, if left on the charger for more than 40 min.

If the replacements don't work I can do TWRAPS
I received the free replacement and it works flawlessly. The original was crap so the difference really surprised me.

One question I have is can you just set the phone on there without a case? for instance the case I actually have on my phone is a complete metal case. It charges fine on the stock charging tray but the phone does get hot. Or does the case actually have to be MagSafe?
The case needs to be MagSafe. My wife replaced her case to a non-MagSage and it doesn't charge well at all, if it does charge.
yes, you can set your iPhone on there without a case if your case isn't compatible.

I’m thinking this case I have will charge because when I just set it down on the regular charging mat, the phone charges right away but it does get hot and that seems to be something that everybody complains about so it’s not just this case I guess?

It seems like a great modification, I’m just curious why everyone thinks this is worth $99… seems a bit overpriced. Don’t mean to be a hater, I just don’t understand.

I don't think that's a fault of the USB-C port. My understanding is that the real limitation is the Qi standard only allowing 7.5 watts. That USB-C port can easily provide _much_ more wattage. I believe it's limited to something like 20A@12V...

If you plug your phone directly into that USB-C port, I suspect it wouldn't have any issue charging your phone.
Ok I did a little very unscientific testing. Starting at ~ 50% SOC, iPhone 15 Pro Max. AC Wired: 25W charging (only tested it briefly), on my Apple MagSafe Duo, 25.9W charging (51%-55% according to Mister Battery app); on my Mach E's USB-C plug, wired I pulled 14W; on the @twraps pad, it was going up so slowly the app could not report a charging rate!

So, for me while I love the design and convenience of the pad the charging is quite slow. I know it can't compete with Apple's locked down wireless charging tech but I feel like it should be able to do better than merely maintain the charge level of the phone.

You guys are costing me money. ;) Just pulled the trigger on one of these. I use carplay a lot on my drives and trips and it's much simpler to just set the phone down than to use the USB cable. The built in wireless charger just heats my phone up and it will say charging has stopped due to excessive heat, etc etc. Also the wife will love a place for hers as well since Ford felt only the driver needed a charging spot. ;)

Ahh that sucks. Yeah mine shows Thursday, Jul 18–Friday, Jul 19 .

They probably have some sort of automated estimate for in stock items based on your location, etc but if an item is back ordered or they're behind they tack on a couple extra weeks. Boooo!

Pull up the rubber mat, then pull up the whole wireless charger assembly (it's shaped like a box). Under is a connector - just disconnect that. I did that a long time ago so I could put my phone there without it catching on fire.
Oookaay, now you got me thinking, can we wire the twraps into the connector for the OEM charger??? Would love to keep both USB ports free, just in case!

Get your volt meter out, splice up the correct wires, and see!

A shame about the ugly cable connection stuck up below the screen. Would like to see a cleaner install option, or additional wiring kit, eg, route under console to another usb port.

I agree it is slow to charge. I’ve read that Qi2 chargers are not limited to 7.5w like 3rd party MagSafe Qi, they can charge the full 15w power. Question is if/when they will update it with Qi2.
