Hello Everyone! I’ve been lurking in the shadows for the past 3 months. So much useful information on this forum! I’ve had my 2023 Mach-E Premium (Standard Battery) since April 27th. I’ve loved every second that I’ve been driving in it until yesterday.

I live in North Carolina (Apex, NC) and went driving out in the country yesterday. I left My house with a 90% battery charge (wasn’t sure how much driving I would be doing). I ended up driving approx 100 miles. On my way home I stopped at my local Publix (2 miles from my house). Everything was fine with the car, when I got back in the car. The warning sign came up about needing to charge soon (I figured it was related to being under 50%). I pulled out of the parking lot and headed home. About 1/4 mile after I left the battery just started to drain from 49% to ZERO % in less than 2 mins. It was like a rapid countdown. I started going up a hill (hoping I could get home) and it died right on the side of the road. I ended up getting towed back to my house (That was fun waiting 90 mins in the NC heat). I plugged it in and and got the battery back to 80% overnight. I contacted the local Ford dealership and the earliest they can get me in is next Thursday (Of course they tell me no courtesy car). I’ve taken it out for a 15 minute Drive this morning and everything seems fine. I haven‘t found a similar story to mine in this forum. I apologize if there is one and I just missed it.

I plan on keeping the charge around 90% and keep it over 50% until I can have the Technician look at It. I did the latest update yesterday about an hour before I left on my drive. It didn’t appear to actually get installed (noticed this on my phone was I was trying to troubleshoot my car on the side of the road). I ended up completing the install this morning. I’m hoping this might possibly been the cause of this rapid battery drain, but that seems kind of crazy to drain the battery that quickly. Thanks for reading this post and I look forward to your suggestions! You all seem pretty knowledgeable and I’m looking for advice on what to do?

Hello, I would like to see if I can assist you with your battery concerns further on my end. Could you please send us a message with your VIN and mileage?

Are you saying 50% SOC (state of charge), or 50 *miles* on the GOM?
It would not be possible to drain the SOC by 50% quickly without driving another ~100 miles.

The reason I ask is because I believe the warning comes on the display when your GOM goes under 50 *miles*.

49% SOC to ZERO%. In under 2 mins. The warning came up once I started up my car. I wasn’t paying much attention to the battery since i was close to home and had 49% when I parked it at Publix. This was the lowest Ive had my battery since getting the Mach E 3 months ago.

I would work with @Ford Motor Company on this. My gut says that the update that didn't apply probably continued to try in the background on your drive while and ate up the battery. Then, when something finally broke free, you saw the display catch up with the actual battery.

I have been in communication with the Ford accountant on here. I also feel the update not properly installing had something to do with it, way too coincidental that both happened on the same day. Obviously, this was a little scary and the last thing I was expecting when driving home from the local grocery store and do NOT want this to happen again.

Typically the car doing updates is only going to affect the 12V battery, not the HVB. I did three updates in a row one night last week and after the third one finished, I got a warning about there being a drain on my electrical system (no shit, it was itself doing the updates - the call was coming from inside the house). There's no reason for most updates to even touch the HVB, let alone discharge it like that.

I agree, but my suggestion is the module that reports the HVB to the system wasn't registering it due to something in the update locking it up. So, the true HVB value wasn't displayed, and then they drove. At that point, when the update failed and the module reset, they got the actual HVB value, which was much less than they believed/anticipated.

I've not seen anyone report this exact scenario, but @Mach-Lee did have his battery drop from (IIRC) 30% to 0% all at once, but it was in very cold weather. He's an expert on battery related stuff, so he might have insights as to what happened to you.

My 2022 SR RWD select yielded no where near 100 miles using 41% on GOM. With hills and 45F (no heater on), I only got around 110-120 miles on I-20 from 90% to 6% GOM. I agree with @VaporTrails that this may be a software glitch.
