Has anyone purchased the Goodyear ElectricDrive 2 tire?

If so, how do you like them so far? Are they nice and quiet? Handle well? Efficiency?

Thanks, just ordered some from my dealer and hoping I didn't make a mistake. So MANY options.

I just had them put on this past Friday. My initial impression is that they definitely seem quiet. They also seem a little light to the touch in steering. Blue Cruise seems to struggle a bit more but not a lot. I’m hoping that’s just because they’re still new and need to be roughed up a little. I’m gonna work on that a little ;) .

Light to the touch? Meaning they react quickly? Also, I know it's been a short time, but have you noticed any efficiency changes?

Thanks so much!

I just drove 400 miles today. Efficiency seems about the same so far but I didn’t take and compare any actual numbers.
Yeah, the steering just seems lighter - easier to turn the wheel.

From Tire Rack's recent test

Goodyear ElectricDrive 2 (Grand Touring All-Season, 235/40R19 96W)
What We Liked: The quietest, most comfortable tire on-road in the test.
What We'd Improve: Its steering and traction feel out-of-step with one another.
Summary: For a regular, straight-line commuter tire, it stands out above the crowd, but its driving characteristics, when pushed, have room to improve.

Thank you. I poured over pretty much every little review of the relevant tires. I'm not sure if I ended up confusing myself more or not. In the end quietness, comfort and range were my top three. I know the Goodyear ED2 might not meet the efficiency requirement. Fingers crossed.

It seems to me you have a good idea what you want and that's good. There is no such thing as a perfect tire but picking one that gives you what you want makes it a good choice.

From the test results the Goodyear should meet your criteria. Post your thoughts once you have them installed and have a few miles in them.

Will do. Thanks. With luck I'll get them in time to go to KC and back next Tuesday. That'd be 300ish miles on a rather hilly, curvy US Hwy and Interstate 35 which is in fairly rough shape in parts. So I should get an idea for quietness, comfort and range.

All righty. I just got the new tires today. Oh man, it is NIGHT and DAY between these and the OEM Michelin Primacys. The old ones howled like a banshee on Beggar's Night. The new ones are so quiet I can actually hear the electric motors.

They also absorbed bumps better and just felt more comfortable going down the road. They might be a hair mushy (not really a good word for it) compared to the Michelins, and they seemed to be a bit less precise in handling.

As far as RANGE is concerned. I traveled the same route to the dealer and back (used my FordPass Points for the tires) at the same speed, with the same climate control settings etc. The route is hilly, bumpy, curving and generally rough for about 75% of the trip. However, about 20 miles of it are literally brand new pavement.

Anyway, though I know the trip meter is somewhat off, I got 3.1 miles per kwh on the way TO the dealer and 2.8 mpkwh on the way home. I did note the tires were unevenly inflated. After I let her cool down about 4.5 hours, I checked pressures again and 3 of the four were at 36#'s and one was at 37#'s. I topped them off to 39. That might explain the loss of range. Or it might be because the new tires have more tread and are heavier. Who knows for sure. Temps were in the low 90's and humid. Partly cloudy. Rock N Roll on the radio. :)

Follow up. Today, with the tires properly aired up, I went on a 170 mile round trip in 90 degree heat, virtually no wind.

Right off the bat the energy use bounced up even higher than I used to get with the old tires. 3.3 KW was pretty solid the whole way up and back, other than the beginning of a new segment.

Handling improved as well, with the "mushy-ness" seeming to go away. Bumps were a bit more noticeable. But not jarring like the old tires. Just more noticeable. Nothing alarming.

The extreme quiet of the tires stayed constant! Yeah!!

The roads I traveled today were almost all but about a 25 mile section up and back, in good shape. The 25 mile section was rough enough to test the ride for sure.

So there ya have it so far. At this point, after day 2 and about 310 miles, I'm very pleased.

Since I have put these tires on, the car definitely has a lighter steering feel. With the Michelin Primacy’s, since new, the car was rock solid in tracking straight ahead - more so than any other car I’ve owned. Now, it’s a little more touchy. It doesn’t pull one way or the other, like the alignment is bad but it needs more attention to stay straight. BlueCruise thinks so too - a little more jerky.

Noise-wise, it’s definitely quieter. Efficiency-wise, I’m gonna say it’s a wash.

I agree with the tracking thing completely. The Primacy's just kept it rolling straight down the road, it would even follow curves somewhat without adjustment at the wheel. You described the difference perfectly. You just have to pay more attention to the wheel. It'll take some adjustment period.

With the haphazard way they aired your tires, you should check the lug nut torque also.

Oh for sure. I live 67 miles from the dealer, so I always have to torque (150 lbs) even after just rotations. Thanks for the suggestion though!
