Such a shame. Was so enjoying the car until today.

I am writing this after a very tough day, so my grammar of English may not be correct, might be the wine.....Sorry but I want to post this ASAP. It may help someone in the future.

Message on dash - Please stop safely.

Got home and parked in my driveway - In front of the guys laying a path for me and his trailer and my brother in law getting ready to leave, they were not happy.

Rally would not get out of park, after franticly searching Google for clues in 100+ degree heat, I noticed other people online having the same issue.

Called Ford Towing, found out how long they would take to get to my location (2 hours) and the damage they can do to an electric vehicle if they don't know the car - or the damage caused by using the wrong pulling methods, I was beginning to freak out - Thankfully ended up cancelling the Tow.

What I did to move it out the way

1. Press Brake and Accelerator at the same time for 5 seconds, it will allow you to shift into Neutral and use the "L" to lock it - works for a while.
It took 4 guys to push this 4000lb + car up a slight slope BTW.

2. Go through the menu's and find - Sorry can't remember the exact "trail" ( I will edit the post later) but there is a ?Allow tow mode? you must press for 5 seconds and it'll free up the ?motors/brake? so it can be moved without damage.

After 20 minutes, locked and moved the key fob away from the car, I tried to "start" it again, it worked! unfortunately the "Service vehicle soon" message was still there.

Drove it to the Northside Ford dealers in San Antonio, as pictured.
Story to be continued..

I sincerely hope that this is not a HVJB failure. Would not bode well for the rest of us with replacement HVJBs that Ford said were fixed and would not weld open/shut anymore.

Would be great if you could pull the codes from the car or have the dealership tell you what the codes are so we can confirm its a HVJB failure or not.

When you put it into drive, do you have a large power limit? Like a 60%+ limit? (Those little grey bars in the power meter)

Not that it matters but I do not recall Ford saying anywhere that the new part will never fail. My old part never failed and I have a GT. I hope my new part doesn’t fail either but there is no guarantee it will never fail.

It's a 2024. If it fails, with almost no miles on it, that's alarming to me. 2023.5s failing is alarming to me. Shouldn't be an issue any longer. I haven't read of a single Lightning having a HVBJB fail, not one. Battery arrays, yes.

Yeah, I don’t think corporate explicitly said it wouldn’t fail. However, I have personally been told by multiple people at Ford that the new HVJB wouldn’t fail again. I was told that on my 2nd replacement, and on my 4th replacement. Now I am on my 4th HVJB and so far so good so we’ll see ?‍♂

I honestly don’t have faith that there will ever be a permanent fix for anyone with a 2023 and below. I was hoping with the reworked thermals on the 2024+ it would be fixed or at least last longer.

Yet to see if this really is a HVJB failure though.

Based on the messages I don't think it's a drive unit failure (Ask me how I know) so the next obvious problem looks like an HVJB issue.
Good luck @RacerDon40 please keep us updated.

All I know is I hope they get something figured out by 26 when my Options comes due. My car has been problem free so no complaints but I would like the bigger heater for one thing. It would be nice if the HVBJB issues were mostly resolved by then.

Most of us who have had them replaced are still subject to them failing again since the vast majority of the HVBJBs in service are either first or second generation units. The 2024s use a third generation unit. We do not yet know if they are better. GTs and Rally’s have only recently started to filter into people’s hands. ?‍♂?

And with the limit lifted at least a bit. So it will be interesting to see how their HVBJB’s perform.

Seemingly it is a HVJB failure...

The Service guy spoke to my wife and did say it was a HVJB issue and the part will be replaced Monday.

I'm new to this EV game but a big car guy, what's a HVJB and why is everyone talking about them?

Seems this is a known issue that folks thought would be worked out in the 2024 models?

The HVBJB (High Voltage Battery Junction Box) is the assembly that connects the High Voltage Battery to other systems in the car (such as DC charging, AC charging, motive power, DC-DC charging, etc.). ??

Yes, it’s a known issue. There are currently three revisions of the HVBJB for the GT and Rally in the wild. The first revision happened in late May of 2022. The second revision in mid-November of 2023. Since 2024 GTs and Rally’s are pretty new in the hands of owners, we don’t know what the failure rate is for the second revision. It’s possible yours is just a defect, causing infant mortality. It’s also possible it’s a failure. It would be interesting to find out what Ford finds out after it’s removed and sent back for analysis. ?‍♂?

Unfortunately now I know what a HVJB is and seemingly I ?overheated? mine.

I have to admit, on that trip I got the car to 108 mph momentarily ( on the track ;).

Guess it didn't like that, although I should be able to handle it..

Now I'm a little worried about pedal down stuff.

One little run over 100 mph shouldn't be enough to overheat anything (because if it were my car would be completely inoperable).
