Well, that was embarrassing lol. The car didn't like that much either.

When I first got the car, I really liked the gear shift knob. It seemed intuitive, simple and different than any other shifter/gear selector that I've used.

Unfortunately, because it's so different from a traditional forward and back shift type selector, I find myself having to look and think about what I'm doing every time I change gears. I'm sure I'll eventually get used to it, but I find it a bit awkward to use. I even got accustomed to my wife's Nissan's shifter fairly quick and it isn't nearly as simple with having two buttons and forward for reverse. I guess the Nissan selector just feels more natural with it's forward and back movement.

Anyone else ever accidentally shift into the wrong gear because of the Mach-E's nontraditional gear selector? Or am I just special?

I never mess the the knob if the car is moving. I didn't on an ICE vehicle either unless it was a standard. So I have never done that.

I suppose I’m special too. I put it in the wrong gear when I was parking my first week of ownership. I make sure to look at the gear indicator on the display before before I take my foot off the brake pedal now.

How did the car respond, did the wheels just lock up? I don't really know how the parking position functions on EVs with no transmission.

I did it, too, lost count of how many times?

If you’re going slow enough for Park to actually engage It’s just a clunk and a rocking back & forth.

I don’t like the gear change, tried the new Explorer and that’s different again - mind blown?

I have also tried putting an ICE into reverse, and Park, and 1st gear hold at……………..80mph, yes you read that correctly, 80mph.

For the purposes of research?

Can’t remember the precise details, it was so long ago, but I did prove a point, and thankfully both me and the transmission lived to fight another day ?

All the time when I am trying to go fast. I hate that rotary shifter. I want a shifter like what came in my T/A. Reverse lockout that requires intervention (button on knob), Park lockout, and a linear path (it also was a dual gate that would not let you shift past the next gear). ??

Totally agree ?

Design should always be failsafe, and for me, idiot proof ?

Yeah, that's basically what happened. Took me by surprise, but I realized exactly what I did by the time the car came to an abrupt stop. Didn't get any warning lights and the car seem to be perfectly fine. Still wouldn't want to try it again

FYI, there is a PRNDL on the driver display (IPC) that shows in real time where the selector knob is positioned so that you don't have to look down at the center console where the knob is.

Yeah that happens every once in a while. It's very abrupt because the car applies the parking pawl instantly and the whole weight of the car goes bouncing off it. I really wish they would improve the software to apply the brakes first when you shift into park, and then apply the pawl once the vehicle has stopped moving. The way it is now puts a ton of stress on the pawl if you aren't quite stopped when you shift into park, and it just feels horrible/poorly done.
