Buying my Mach-E next weekend. I live in central Florida and found an amazing deal in NC, so good it’s worth buying there and not here. Just finalizing some of the paperwork. My question is, should I buy a warranty or not? I plan to keep it a while. Should have it paid off in 48 months and am hoping to really put some miles on it. I can probably pay cash for a warranty. But many posts I see imply to me that these things really don’t need much maintenance. What are your thoughts?

I haven’t found extended warranties useful in the last 30 years of owning cars. Except maybe I should have gotten one for my 2001 Corvette.
I am inclined to agree. I can’t recall buying any my new cars without some extended warranty but I honestly can’t remember using those extended warranty.

I don't know the exact figures, but this is how I look at it. If you buy a warranty, the F&I guy get a large commission, the dealership gets a small commission, and the insurance company averages a profit. The math simply isn't in your favor. Not to mention, I think everyone knows someone personally that has been jerked around by the extended warranty company.

The new car warranty covers the front end of the bathtub curve and limits your exposure to mfg defects. If you live a long life and never buy one of these things, the math says you will always come out ahead.

I have been posting these many times. A back up camera was around $1,700 plus installation. An entertainment bug screen was estimated to be around $4,000. I got both replaced under btb warranty. I bought an extended warranty from grangerford because I could see myself driving this car after btb warranty expired. I paid slightly more than $1,000 after points for 8Y 100k.

The warranty can be purchased online for around the price of repairing one electronic component/sensor. I wouldn’t pay what my dealership wanted for the warranty, but at the same time I doubt Ford makes any money on warranty sales. It seems more like a tool they provide to dealers to indirectly increase vehicle markup/margin and if Ford is lucky, they break even in average. If they lose a little money on it then at least the dealers are kept happy (at least on initial sale).

Since @Delsk lives in Florida, he won't be able to take advantage of online pricing.

I bought a 22 California route1 with extended range 4 months ago, and so far so good. But I find if you read regular post on here, there are an array of problems that show up. I bought out of state to find the color, options etc. and negotiated the warranty with the Ford dealership. 8 yrs bumper to bumper for just under 3k. Some will say that’s a lot, others say great deal. For all it covers and I can take it anywhere that shop is EV certified-it’s giving me peace of mind! Just my 2 cents

I agree that $3k isn’t a lot, especially when you consider all that I’m saving by financing 0% interest.

Warranty does not equate to maintenance. Two different things.

Correct. My words did not reflect my intent. That should not have said maintenance. It should have said they really don’t need much in the way of repairs. Thanks for the correction.

Can you provide any information on Granger and how I can do this as well?

To be clear, residents of Florida and California are not permitted to buy discounted extended warranties from online Ford dealers. This is law in both states. He is in Massachusetts...
