Re: Home charging

Just wondering about proper amperage for my 2023 MachE. I have a grizzlyE level two charger that I am installing today. I can change the amperage internally. It is set at 40 amps.
Please advise

Max of 48amps, which would require a hardwired charger and the proper circuit.

You always want it set to 20% less than the circuit breaker can handle. Prevent overheating on long continuous draws. 50amp circuit = 40 amp charger setting.
40 amp circuit = 32 amp charger setting.
and on down.
By US building codes,60 amp circuits have to be hard wired. No outlets. So the 48 amp setting is for when you have a hard wired 60 amp circuit.

FWIW - I have a Charge Point EVSE; hard wired to a 60 amp circuit, but downrated in the app to charge at 25 amp. Even coming home on 10% charge, it will bring the car back up to 80% the following morning long before I am awake. I lowered the amp to reduce the overall heat and stress on my service panel, knowing that I can bring it back up to 48 amp if ever needed via the phone amp. Had I realized this before the install, I could have saved a few dollars with a 48 amp circuit, but at least I am somewhat future proofed.

What amperage is the breaker? It should be set to 80% of the breaker.

I have a Tesla Universal charger hard wired on a 60 amp circuit. I had to tell the charger that it was on a 40 amp circuit, because my '21 MME would not accept a charge if the charger was set for higher rated circuit.

Update the firmware, that shouldn’t happen. Mach-E will charge on anything that properly supports J1772 regardless of amperage.
