I’m having a 10k maintenance done basically check all fluids and tyre rotation $20 plus tax. Perfect. I asked if I could change the cabin filtre just because they said $120. I checked another dealership and said $36 and they will change it with the 10k miles. Is this CRAZY?

Of course you can change your own air filter, which is slated for 20,000 miles. Get FPP89. $23 or so at a Ford dealer that discounts parts.

I canceled my appointment and went with the other dealership. Buyer beware!

Dealers each set their own pricing. Some don’t care to compete with independent shops on pricing. ??

I recently dropped my Audi at a stealership in NJ for an oil change. I had just change both the engine and cabin air filter two days earlier. They informed me the cabin filter needed to be changed for $108.00. I informed them the filter was two days old and I would not be revisiting their establishment again. Buyer beware.

@RickMachE is correct. It’s quite easy, and far cheaper, to change your own cabin air filter. There are a couple of videos on how to do it on YouTube. I takes longer to watch the video than to actually do the change.

An additional advantage is that you can get a higher quality filter a little cheaper than through many dealerships.

I’m far from mechanically inclined. My luck I’d change the carborator

The videos on Youtube are a goldmine. You may have to weed out some of the long winded ones. Most will walk you through every step, whether you are looking for changing filters or wiper-blades, etc.

I have changed mine twice now. The first time it took a while as I was afraid to break something. The second one went really quickly. I watched the EV guy’s video. I’ll probably do that again for the next time as a refresher. Definitely awkward to get to.

At 20K for a tire rotation, the dealer asked me if I wanted to replace the cabin filter for (I think they said $45) and I answered no. Then I asked if I can pickup the car right away and they said sure! The next day I went and bought a new cabin filter. When I lowered the glove box door to install it, I found the flap where the filter goes unlatched and no filter installed! Glad I jumped on getting the replacement. BTW, my first tire rotation cost $25.00, a year later it was $40.00. Don't think I'm getting better service with the increased cost.

What I'm trying to understand is why ford went with a 20k interval for the cabin filter when one could spend infinitely more time in the car in traffic compared to driving 20k miles at 65mph, it makes no sense, it's literally meaningless, same with the 10,000 mile intervals, makes no sense what so ever.

(For what its worth in the PDF manual it says 10k OR 1 year)

I've got my 10k service coming up soon and I'll do my own cabin air filter. My biggest worry is that my small town Ford place won't put it up on the rack correctly and damage the battery.
