I've had the Juice Box 40 since Dec. 2020. I'm shocked to hear this news. So for those of us who have Juice Box Charger what exactly does this mean. Will Juice Box be a separate company and be able to service and sell?
No. They have completely abandoned us and rather quickly at that.

At least they’re doing it because they’re going out of business, not because they decided it would be more profitable to make you buy a subscription for what used to be free or to make you upgrade to the newer model.

Absolutely sucks though, I know they were widely recommended.
Read the letter. The parent company with $90B in annual revenue, formerly part of the Italian government. They are shutting down this annoying US piece.

Many units have dip switches. Ford, ChargePoint, ...
Ok, in the name of science I took the cover off my (older model) Juicebox. I happened to have the correct security bit, so this was as easy as removing 4 screws from the front. The only things I'm seeing that could be considered dip switches are the headers connectors that I suppose could be bridged to configure the EVSE in certain ways, like older computer motherboards. But I dunno.

10th thread on this...
Yeah, sorry. I did post this seconds after I got the e-mail, but I didn't consider others would've been much higher on the food chain than me.

in the past eighteen months I only needed tech support once, and they sorted me in minutes, so had a great experience with them BUT I could never get the app to work. BUt it's worked great as a dumb evse for me.

Got it too. Never used their software so as long as my Juicebox still works I really don't care.
yeah I'm with ya on that, I needed tech support one time in eighteen months and they were great and had it fixed in minutes. BUT I could never get the app to work, it's always been used as a dumb EVSE and it's worked well in that capacity

according to the email they're discontinuing the software so it sounds like as long as your ok with it as a dumb EVSE (I am) and it works it's not an issue, but it sounds pretty much that in the US at least we're on our own.

My JB quit working just out of warranty. They offered to sell me a new one at full MSRP, even higher than Amazon and all competitors. And when I said no, the rep said I might fix the stuck relay if I thwacked the box a few times on the side with a malet. Comically, that did work. And I've thus far repeated it a few times. But I'd already decided that when it goes, I'll get something else.

First, this sucks. I'm sorry to hear this for all of you that invested in Juicebox equipment.
That said, the product and assets of this division seem like an obvious target for Amazon to purchase and make part of their hardware division and include in their Alexa/Smarthome portfolio.

I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer from a technology perspective, so trying to figure out what I need to do now with my JuiceBox and the Enel-X app. FWIW, it's an older model that I bought in 2016.

1) At this point, my app still seems to be working. The sliding bar for the amperage is set at 40, although under max capacity it reads 38.15. It's on a dedicated 50 amp circuit. Do I need to change any settings?

2) My MME is set to charge anytime, while the JuiceBox is set to start at 11 pm. Should I change it so I now schedule it to charge at 11 pm in the Ford app?

3) Once I've done this, would be it be best to take the JuiceBox offline?

Who said that they have bad customer service?

Wow! I purchased a JB40 thru Costco online in May of 2024.

When I experienced issues with that original unit (had to set a max of 32amp or it would shut down), Belisario Varela of their customer support, did a WONDERFUL job of providing my service. My hope is that someone quickly hires Belisario.

I have just received a replacement JB40 under warranty and put it into service, at the full 40amp rating.

We are fortunate, in that we plug the unit in when we park for the night and the Ford App determines when our Mache reaches the target charge. The Enel App plays no role for us.

Now we have the new unit, set at 40amp, and the old unit sitting in a box as a spare.

Again, my wishes are for the employees who may be displaced by this decision. Best of luck!

Peace/Out

There's a project on GitHub about trying to get access back to the charger. It is not for the faint of heart and it's not clear to me if it will work when the servers shut down since it's essentially a Man in the Middle "attack". I'll be following it and see what the developments are. Otherwise I'll look hard at OpenEVSE.

I don't know if the Juicebox stores the charging schedule on the box. It probably doesn't, but to be safe I would also remove your 11pm charging schedule from the Enel app.
