Haven’t got my adapter yet, was September, now January. In storm recovery mode, in St Petersburg FL. Went to EA chargers today to top off. 2/6 inoperable. One occupied by a FULLY CHARGED Mach-E. Hope that was no one here, as I cursed you heavily! Two car line. Had to go to Lowe’s for a replacement garage door sensor and saw that they had Superchargers - marked as 20 NACS / 20 CCS on PlugShare. Saw when I got there, adapter required. Back waiting at EA - next if only the 2 KIAS can figure out how to work their chargers - low expectations for the guy that needed his passenger to get out to guide him into the spot.

Unfortunately for you, your lack of understanding prevented you from charging. That location has Magic Dock. You could have easily charged there. https://www.plugshare.com/location/590969

You aren't really a Ford salesperson, are you?

I'm going to chime since everyone else has. That Tesla location is a magic dock location. All you have to do is look in the Tesla app or on the Tesla website.

Maybe I didn’t look close enough? Was my first visit to ANY Tesla charger and I only saw NACS plugs?? And, yes I sell Fords.
No offense, but if you're selling EVs then you should know to look in FordPass, and what Magic Dock is, no?

In fairness, the first time you use a Magic Dock can be a bit confusing because the built-in adapter is pretty well hidden - it isn’t just another cable hanging from the side as you expect to see with CCS/Chademo stations. You press a button on the NACS handle which locks it to the adapter, which then slides out of the hidden holster. Pretty slick, but if you didn’t know the adapter was in there you’d never guess.

Thank you Phil.

as for Rick. I sell cars, not Tesla chargers.

like anyone else, I only know what I am familiar with and - while I have tried most of the available charging companies- I have, still, never used any Tesla chargers

Way to make people feel welcome in our little group. Frankly, offense taken.

like Phil said, it was not obvious that there was a built in adapter and - in addition- the only vehicles there were Teslas.

No offense intended. You drive a Mach-E and you work for Ford, and they haven't explained Magic Docks in dealer training? That's crazy.

The key is you're not supposed to go to the charging location and try to figure it out. The apps - whether it be Tesla, or FordPass, tell you whether you can charge there. And, to use Magic Dock, the Tesla app literally takes you step by step through the process.

So your EV customers haven't asked these questions?

Rick wasn't trying to offend and I'm not either. But having read story after story in major publications in the past year and listening to various podcasts, a lot of people have stories of purchasing evs from dealers and during the buying process those buyers had a horrible sales experience bc the sales rep couldn't properly inform the buyer on a wide range of ev topics including charging.

So the fact that you're a sales rep and you own an EV and you didn't know to look in the Ford pass app for available chargers reinforces why there are so many horror stories that have been presented over the last year about purchasing evs from car dealers. You don't have to sell chargers, but you should be familiar with charging and how to use the Ford Pass app to find a available charger.

I have never had a customer ask about charging beyond an explanation of the different charging levels / speeds.

Ford has not provided me - or anyone, to the best of my understanding- with any training on the Tesla chargers. And, while I have gone out of my way to try each different “brand” of charger in my area - today would have been my first supercharger experience- had I only known.

The navigation system didn’t even show that charger, I found it using PlugShare. I assumed that I would need a NACS to CCS adapter and, not having one I never even tried Tesla.

So, lesson learned

In the end it worked out fine EA charger was super slow today (only 20-24kwh) but I got what I needed to get to my appointment later with enough to get to the charger at work (that I normally use). Got to use a few more of my original charging credits from EA and had a nice lunch at the mall food court.

I just might swing by Lowe’s again on my way back home later today. Just to experience the Tesla chargers. In case anyone does ever ask.

Well, I'm happy that you're aware of this website and as such can gain some knowledge from being here. While you may not have had a customer ask about charging, it never hurts to be knowledgable about EV related items bc one day you may have a customer ask a charging question. If you haven't done so already, definitely visit the Insideevs website for EV related news and reviews. Electrek is a good site and Out of Spec and State of Charge are good Youtube EV sites.
