First, not everyone has the technical chops/courage to do an update that could potentially brick their car. Second, it’s more than just a cable. For example, I’m exclusively Apple. I would have to buy a windows PC and an expensive FDRS license (yes, I know “cheap” ones are available), and a special power supply (not just a 12V Battery tender) to even attempt it. Why should I invest over $1,000 to likely brick my car?
I loan Mongooses for free and everybody knows it. Anyone can borrow a windows laptop from someone and if not, I have one I can also loan out. Unfortunately, I cannot help provide testicular fortitude to anyone scared of messing something up. However, I can help them fix it in the unlikely event that something goes wrong.

With that said, my main point was that 2021 vehicles are being abandoned. It's a ridiculous conclusion based on nothing other than owners of said vehicles not getting what they want when they want it.

If this is true there will be a big uproar from us 2021 owners.
What will this uproar mean to Ford? How many lost customers will their decision translate to?

Don't get me wrong. As a 23 model owner I completely feel for 2021 owners. But what incentive does Ford have to update 2021 owners (and 22 or 23 owners)? So potentially a couple 21 owners will stop buying Ford cars because of this. I'm sure this is a calculated decision from Ford and they've determined any loss of income from lost sales is smaller than the costs they would incur on supporting the rollout to 21s.

The monthly subscription revenue.

Way more people are going to subscribe to BlueCruise that is updated than will buy a new car just for a minor update.
Apparently Ford business suits made the calculation and the revenue from 21 owners would not be enough to move that needle? That's just my guess of course.

Agreed, although the information vacuum that’s fueling the wild speculation and pessimism is unfortunate. And potentially quickly remedied with a little more communication from @Ford Motor Company.

If they aren’t going to continue development for my car, I’d be fine with a subscription that reflects the cost of map updates only. For me, that’s gotta be somewhere around $100/year max.
My BC renewal, which I signed up for last Dec for my Job 1.. when there was anticipation on updates based on FORD'S communications, now feels... overpriced. And overhyped.

I wonder what the take would be if they made it available to MY21 as a PAID dealer install?
Probably pretty low, but you gave me an idea. They could simply make the update free contingent on a subscription to BC.

I think that's a little harsh for 2021 owners. They are absolutely justified to feel a little raw given Ford's issues updating the 2021s and lack of communication on the matter.

Ford published in emails and their literature than 2021s were included in the Blue Cruise updates which were to come "soon". What more do I need. That set my expectations and I renewed my existing Blue Cruise software for 3 years. That seems like a binding contract to me.

If people want to jump to that conclusion sure.

But the update exists, it can be applied to 21’s. OTA is the problem currently, and I wouldn’t start my meltdown until they actually announce it isn’t coming.

I think there might be more I told you so’s than an uproar. At this point I think most have given up on anything beyond 1.0 (justified or not).

All presuming it’s true.
Bring back the $200/ year subscription for us 1.0 drivers.
Well …

They’d be stranding 21 owners with a less than current gen BlueCruise (1.3 being current gen) and presumably locking us out of next gen BC (1.5) so I think it’d be appropriate to refund the 21s who renewed BC and make 1.0 (last gen technology) free. I’m not really jesting. Much.

Again, presuming this is all confirmed, etc.

Sure they are. I would be frustrated too, were I still driving a vehicle with no BC whatsoever and stuck on software from 2020. I was that guy crying on the forums 3 years ago. The difference is I took matters into my own hands 3 months into owning it and I LOVE my truck to the point I bought it when the lease ended. As a matter of fact, I have my girl convinced to get one of these when her lease is up on the boring Accord she's driving which I advised her not to get.

Going the FDRS route or not has been debated over and over. Personally, I'm done trying to convince people to do it. You can only lead a horse to water, am I right?

What I'm trying to understand is where the conception that 2021 vehicles are no longer supported is coming from. It is completely unfounded and all it does is chum the waters causing a feeding frenzy for people who are already irate to get even more worked up.

I’ve been seriously considering adding a Lightning before EOY, and been lurking that forum a lot more recently for vibes.

Think it’s a good truck that will meet my needs.. But, not feeling so loyal to brand tonight.

If it helps, Ford this week told me the 21 updates would be resuming and we’re on temporary pause.

What I'm trying to understand is where the conception that 2021 vehicles are no longer supported is coming from.
That conception is coming from the support page linked in the OP of this thread. Specifically, it is coming from these two lines in the support page:

"Vehicles eligible to receive BlueCruise 1.3:
  • Mustang Mach-E® model years 2022–2023"
You can argue that the conception is wrong, and you can explain why you believe that to be true. But where it's coming from? That is clear.

I am not interested in BlueCruise. But for people who are interested in such things, and who are not getting a lot of communication from Ford, I can see why this support note might be troubling.
