For peace of mind when I first bought my MME, I also got a Lectron Tesla to J1772 Adapter, the original “pigtail” design, rated for 40 amps to use a Tesla Destination chargers just in case: it has never been used.

I now have to replace my ChargePoint EVSE that has a J1772 connector (set to charge at 40 amps on a 50 amp breaker) and considering replacing with an EVSE that has a NACS (Tesla) connector because it Is basically the standard going forward, and essentially keep the Lectron adapter attached to it for as long as I own this car.

Any thoughts or concerns from the group?

It should be fine, but if it were me, I'd go with a charger that has the connector that natively fits the car you have now. Most EVSE manufacturers either already do or soon will offer conversion kits. Just do that in a few years when and if you get a car with native NACS.

My EVSE is a J1772 which I use daily for the MME and with an adapter for my Tesla... no issues of any kind.

This was my initial inclination, especially because I feel like I'm going to keep this car until is dies.

But then I think they'll charge $100 or more for these kits when I've already sunk that cost in the adapter. Plus I do want to add a second EV car to the mix eventually and think I'd be set up for that eventuality either way.

If you're planning to keep the MME until it dies, you have many years of charging ahead of you. I'd still go with J1772. If you really want to future proof, you could always go with a Tesla Universal Wall Connector.

Curious why you're replacing the ChargePoint. Issues?

I was going to suggest like one of the others, a charger that you can later adapt with a different cable if you eventually changed cars. And the ChargePoint is one of those that's pretty easy to do that.

My ChargePoint stopped working, went through the troubleshooting with their customer service and the determination is the unit needs to be replaced. This all happened about two weeks after the warranty expired, so all they're offering is a 10% discount on a new unit which currently works out to just under $500 (there is potential evidence that the unit starting failing before the warranty expired, but that is a story for a different time ...).

Anyway, this experience soured my desire to go with another ChargePoint unit specifically, and frankly "smart" EVSEs in general, since I really didn't really pay attention to the smart features after a couple months. The only advantage to the ChargePoint unit is I get a semi-annual rebate from my electric company by letting them control the charging window, but that rebate isn't worth it if I'm replacing units every few years. So I'm looking at a very well reviewed EVSE from a competitor that is quite a bit less for Black Friday and just trying to figure out which connector to get.

If you paid by major credit card, you may have extended warranty on it.

I have the Tesla universal wall charger hardwired in my garage. It has support for both NACS and J1772. So if you're concerned with having compatibility for both I would install one of these. In essence you're using a NACS plug with an adapter attached to it. I've been running this for almost a year with zero issues.

Tesla makes a universal wall charger. NACS plug with the equivalent of a TeslaTap adapter that attaches at the push of a button while removing the charger from the unit. It might be worth considering.

True, but I don't have that option in this case. And even if I did I still feel this is on ChargePoint to address, not MasterCard.

FWIW I had searched the forum and found at least two other members whose ChargePoint units failed. In one case before the warranty expired so they got their replacement. In the other, theirs failed just after the warranty expired like mine, but they did have an extended warranty through their card. To have that many failures within this MME group, which in the big picture is a relatively small group, just doesn't instill confidence that I won't be here again in three or even four years with ChargePoint, especially when I can get an Autel unit, which is just as highly regarded as ChargePoint, for $299 for the 50 Amp hardwire in grey on Amazon at this very moment

Since it's an auto accessory, nope.

I tried this on my Juicebox chargers and they denied my claim.

Just get the Tesla universal wall connector.
Best of both worlds.

Shouldn't have any issues with daily use assuming the adapter you have is rated for the amperage you use, but you could just get a Tesla Universal Wall Connector that has NACS with a built-in J1772 adapter.
