Following, this will be a determining factor in whether I keep my Mach-E at the end of my lease term. Tesla includes the motor in the battery/electrical system warranty, and I would hope Ford does the same.

This makes zero sense.

Well, looking at the warranty docs for my 2023.0 GTPE, I found this:

If we agree that the electric motor is part of the driveline, Part 2 says it covers the "eDrive", which I would think is the the motor. However, Part 1 says it covers everything in the driveline not covered in Part 2 for 5yrs/60K miles. I certainly think the motor is covered under one of these two sections.

Ford and/or dealer saying the motor isn't covered under powertrain warranty is like saying an ICE engine isn't covered under powertrain warranty.
I'm going to guess someone quickly looked at this and didn't see the word "motor" spelled out, so said it's not covered. Everything I can find online myself, and with AI, says that the motor is part of the eDrive system, so it would be included in the 8/100k warranty. I imagine this will be cleared up quickly.

I would approach the phone call by first asking for clarification on the warranty - What's included in the eDrive? What's included in the powertrain?

which Ford dealership is this one? I really want to give them a call to understand how the frontal lobe functions without the occipital one. really this is the only way to explain your situation.

Given the OP said the dealer also doesn’t understand why Ford claims it’s not covered……

Agreed. I have a Mach-E and a 2018 Tesla Model 3 and Tesla considers the battery and powertrain under one umbrella warranty. Mine is 8yr 120k miles.

Folks, I got a call from the dealer today. They told me Ford came back with a request to see pictures of the motor. While he told me this is not uncommon, I feel they are dragging their feet as they've already had the car 2 weeks and 1 day.

In parallel, I:

1. DM'ed Ford on this Forum with my VIN, etc.
2. Will be getting the case number from my service mgr tomorrow so that I can contact Ford Warranty separately.
3. Will contact the Ford EV team. Someone on this thread posted an 800 number.

I will keep this thread in the loop. Thanks for all your responses.

This wouldn’t be the first time someone on the other end of an 800 number was wrong.

Electric motors are one of the basic components of the eDrive system.

And even if they somehow categorize them differently they would be a part of the “all” coverage in the powertrain warranty.

Powertrain coverage applies to all components of the driveline
that are not specifically covered by the Electric Vehicle Component warranty. Powertrain components that receive
warranty coverage for five years or 60,000 miles may include…..”
They probably heard "rear motor" and thought it was the wiper motor. ?

Definitely call the EV team right away. I bet this is a misunderstanding. In a ICEV, I can see many of the electric motors that move things (like the windows) not covered under the powertrain warranty. But as others have posted, the rear motor is definitely part of the powertrain in a BEV.

I am sure the EV team will help you get it sorted. If not, I will be shocked. As will everyone else.

I would hope the rear motor is actually part of the eDrive system, which has a better 8-yr, 100k mile warranty. Tesla includes their drive motors in the battery/eDrive system warranty - this seems to be the industry standard (and maybe even a federal requirement under the law that requires 8-yr/100k mile warranties on the battery/high voltage electric systems in EVs - but not certain).
