Absolutely idiotic. I can't access the phone keypad while driving, so, e.g., I can dial a call with my voice but if I need to press "2" for customer service, I have to dig my phone out of my pocket, look at it, press the keypad button, and then press 2. How is that safer? And yes, I could wait to make the call, but if you spend an hour driving 10 miles in traffic you sometimes find yourself having to deal with other aspects of life.

Not sure if this is thanks to @Ford Motor Company or Apple, but I can access the keypad in CarPlay on my not-a-Ford vehicle while driving, so it's certainly not an immutable rule of CarPlay. /rant

Yeah, it’s not like the size of 12 buttons on a screen that size would be hard targets. Probably a federal regulation somewhere causing it. ?‍♂?

Yet it works on my Mazda. I don't think it's a legal restriction. A little additional research shows it’s an auto maker imposed restriction. And it’s stupid.

Then it’s probably Ford just being overly-cautious about getting sued. Leave feedback in the voice feedback app and maybe it will be changed in the future. ?‍♂?

Yeah, that’s why all of these silly rules exist. Imagine the irony if Ford was sued because somebody got into an accident trying to take their phone out of their pocket to access the keypad!

Pushing a number on the keypad is idiotic?

Yeah I don't understand this one. They let you search/interact with the maps app, browse for playlists/songs, interact with any other app, but that darn keypad with 10 numbers and no scrolling involved is waaaay too distracting when you're calling a business and need to hit the 2 key to get to tech support. LOL

Pressing one number isn’t the issue. Pressing 11 numbers in a row is. That’s why it’s the way it is.

You don't think they can program it to only show the keypad screen when it detects you're in an active call?

Full CarPlay integration seems to be elusive. Try using the Ford voice control assistant to make a call... nope.

hmm the last time I did a call like this, the phone automation let me "push" or "say" 2. So I just said "2" in my best surly voice. :D

Sure, they could, but then you have some yahoo with a billing statement in one hand, trying to mash an account button in another, and hurling down the road in a 4,609-lb vehicle.

It really should be on the phone system, if they do not have the ability to include press or say 2, it is not Carplay's vault.
