I wanted to reach out and see if anyone else has been experiencing similar issues with their Mustang Mach-E. Here’s my situation:

  1. Initial Error Messages:
    • “Powertrain Malfunction / Reduced Power”
    • “High-Voltage Battery Warning”
  2. I brought the car to my local dealership, which has two dedicated EV techs. They kept it for about a week, performed a software update, and reset the error messages. Everything seemed fine when I got it back—at least at first.
  3. Return of Error Messages & New Charging Issue:
    • Fewer than 200 miles after leaving the dealership, the same error messages popped up again.
    • On top of that, I noticed extremely slow charging on both AC and DC fast charging.
  4. Slow DC Charging Example:
    • At a 350 kWh-rated Electrify America charger (with my battery at low range), I only saw a max of ~40 kW.
    • Typically, I should be getting at least 100 kW at that state of charge, if not more.
  5. Second Visit to the Dealer:
    • I brought the car back in, and it’s now been another week in their shop.
    • The dealer said they planned to replace the BCM (Battery Control Module) or HVBJB.
    • I just heard from my Service Advisor who said Ford is having the dealership do some pin point testing on the HV Battery and they are still waiting on parts for the BCM or HVBJB.
    • I did notice in the FordPass app that the car was plugged into a Level 2 charger at the dealership last week, and the error messages seemed to clear again. However, the slow charging problem still persists.
  6. Possible Causes?:
    • I’m not an EV-certified technician, so I’m just trying to piece things together.
    • My service advisor briefly mentioned the possibility of an issue with the HV (high-voltage) battery.
    • I’m also wondering if a bad inverter or something along those lines could cause the slow charging and errors.
Has anyone else gone through a similar experience? If so, did you get a definitive cause or fix? Any insight would be extremely helpful—especially if you had a dealer replace the high-voltage battery or discovered another issue like the inverter. I’m eager to get my Mach-E back in proper shape and get back to enjoying it.

Thanks in advance for any advice or shared experiences!

It's unfortunate that the dealership didn't do on the first visit what it appears to be doing on the second visit.

But at least this time they are actually doing Diagnostics, rather than clearing codes and sending you on your way. Such an apathetic approach and one that is all too common these days.

Agreed. I made it very obvious that I was not too happy when I dropped it off for the same issue. It appears to be getting some more attention this time around. I am curious to hear back from anyone else that might have experienced these same systems and what their fix was.

I'm not one to defend dealerships (I've had plenty of issues with them), but it's possible they did exactly what Ford recommended (if error messages 'x', check function of 'y' and update software 'z').

If you have your VIN, post it on the FDRS thread and ask a volunteer there to pull your car’s codes. That would at least tell you what the dealer is seeing. ??

While I have no doubt that Ford has and does tie the hands of the technician on warranty claims at times, I personally believe that "We're waiting to hear back from Ford", along with some other tactics that I describe as apathetic to the customer's dilemma, are symptoms of a broken automotive service industry.

And it's not just Ford. Not even close.

That's why my addiction to automotive forums for most of the vehicles I own these days. I'm absolutely convinced the collective knowledge has saved me countless opportunities for frustration and wasting time.

Valid point, but just as a customer, not great experience. Ford to blame or the dealer to blame, not a great experience from the reset light and move on path. Hopefully they fix it for good this time. I do really enjoy the vehicle overall and I'm confident is a resolvable issue once they get it figured out.

On a side note what I have not been enjoying is the 19mpg I am getting on the V6 loaner F-150 STX LOL. Almost forgot how to buy gas.

Thanks for the suggestion. I will do that. Original WO says "found DTC P0ADA". Followed SSM 51880.

P0ADA is a high voltage contractor code. Definitely need an HVBJB. If there are other codes they may be for other issues. ??

The fix is to replace the HVBJB, no diagnostics needed.

Acceleration and DC charging speed will be reduced with that code active to protect the damaged contactors from further degradation.

Update:

I am told the battery parts have been replaced. Assuming that is the HVBJB. I can see on the Ford Pass App that the error messages have cleared.
However, charging still appears to be very slow. Ford dealer plugged it into a Level 2 charger yesterday. Charging data below:

This screenshot provides the following summary of the EV charging session:

• Charging Duration: 21 hours and 37 minutes

• Energy Added: 64 kWh

• Charge Level:

• Start: 30% (on 1/3/2025 at 8:46 AM)

• End: 100% (on 1/4/2025 at 6:24 AM)

• Range Added: +199 miles
