Is this insulation piece needed on the subwoofer?

I think they should replace it to rule out the speaker itself. I don't think it is it since it does not make the noise once the panel is pulled away but I'd have them do it anyway then go from there.
Sounds good, I have called just now to order the new subwoofer. They’ll come back to me with the installation date.

I also wonder if the new subwoofer comes with the housing or they would have to reuse the existing one.

That is a good question. I would say it is part of the housing. In past Ford cars it has been.

Fa_, not sure if you can change the location of this thread, but it's in the "Marketplace" forum so it does not show up under latest posts. Only members looking to buy something will see this thread and you aren't selling anything. If you cannot move it, then maybe the Administrator can.

Right I am not the OP on this one but certainly it makes more sense to move it I wonder if @Administrator can do that?

So the dealer has replaced the subwoofer and the rattle is still present. Its not that its always there, but I can mostly catch if while listening to EDM music such as Chill channel on Sirius XM and B&O set to Lounge. I bet it's the white diaper cloth that begs removal. I am supersenstitive to noises, so I wonder if removal of that white cloth will make road noise enter the cabin? anyone hear more road noises who removed it?

I'm fixing to tear into my hatch area soon to track down an annoying buzzing noise. Hoping it's just the white insulation pad, but I'll also check the sub housing screws while I'm in there.

Side note - Isn't the stock "sub" just a 6x9 speaker? Any chance it can be easily swapped out with something higher quality?

Several members here have had a buzzing noise and it was the white insulation piece over the subwoofer grill but a rattle? Don't think that cloth will cause that. Maybe part of a wiring loom or wire vibrating against the body? Rattles are so difficult to find sometime.

Not that would make it sound any better.

I had uploaded the recording back in one of my posts and you recommended swapping the subwoofer with the dealer, not sure if it’s buzzing or rattle I guess depends on how one hears it.

Yes thought since it was under warranty, might as well replace the speaker to eliminate that possibility. Now that we know it is not that, can look further. Don't want to me tearing it apart looking for a noise in case it was the speaker.

Did you have a look into my video with the noise I am getting from time to time it’s a a few posts before in this thread. I wonder if you get the same buzz/rattle?
If one listens closely in the trunk it’s more rattle but if you listen from the drivers seat sounds more like buzz I guess. Also would appreciate your outcome here once you get in there and fix the noise.

Do you think I should pursue further with the dealer or go my own avenue ? Not every record/song rattles/buzzes, but I can potentially find a record that does the rattle and get it back to them again.
