I picked up our dog from the kennel, she was sooo excited and was bouncing all over. In 6 miles of driving, I had to shut off the hazards, clear the park assist or acknowledge the parking brake a few dozen times. I’m thinking of making a cover for it. If I need the hazards I can remove the cover. The other 2 button, I never use.j I’m a woodworker and may go down that road, just wondering if there was a 3d printed version out there? Has anybody done a cover for all of the buttons on the console?

Independent of dog position opinions and possible solutions, that's a really cute pup! She also looks easily excited!

Unpopular opinion, but dogs should be confined/restrained to the rear of the vehicle while driving. They should not be up front in your lap or interfering with the controls. Plus in an accident they will become a projectile or killed by the airbag.

So you should buy a rear seat dog hammock not a button cover.
This is why I drive a liftgate Mustang. Our pooch rides behind the back seat.

Not an unpopular opinion. We have hammocks in each car. They stay in most of the time since it's usually the dogs in the back seat. Takes all of 30 seconds to remove it for people to ride, less if it's just one person. We have harnesses for the dogs that clip into the seat belts. The hammocks have mesh in the center so the rear AC keeps them cool. One model I have has zip up sides that keep them from pushing on the window controls if I forget the child lock.
Do you have a link to what you have?

I agree, my cat does the the same when he steps on the park assist or hazard lights! Let m know if you have a solution, I just cover the armrest with a blanket currently when we travel with him.

Below is him driving.

The calico cat refused to drive. She had chauffeurs for that.

The original question still stands, how to cover the button to prevent accidental contact.

My wife and I were on a roadtrip over the weekend. I mentioned this thread and discussions heading toward hammocks and back seat restraints for unruly animals. A few miles down the road, she adjusts her purse… and sets off the 4ways and park assist. So I naturally suggest a hammock and/or tether in the back. She may have reached into the drivers space and interfered with the driver. ???‍♂ ?

I’m still thinking on the button cover. I’ve got a scrap piece of 1/4 wood that needs to get shaped to fit. I think it needs a slight concave shape on the bottom that has me scratching my head, and how to attach it firmly, but temporary, or some easy access to at least the hazards for sure.

Naturally, the best solution for avoiding any accidental contact is to avoid putting anything in that area. The old ounce of prevention thing.

Covering the area with anything is going to impede access to the controls. It's simple geometry.

The original problem presented was how to keep the dog from hitting buttons. Nothing about the solutions suggested implied the dog was unruly but rather pointed out that from a general safety perspective the dog and everyone in the car is safer with the dog in the backseat. Regarding the purse, perhaps your wife could drive while you hold her purse in the passenger seat.

On my first expedition in my new Mach-E with my trustee companion I look down and my hazards are on! So I turn them off....and 1 minute later they are back on! So, with that in mind, I began the process of designing a center console cover (see photo of my design evolution). I think I have come up with an acceptable design and have attached the final version that I am beginning to produce. I will be producing them in dark gray for the 1st production run. I will attach a link to the ebay listing once it's available.

I currently have my prototypes available for sale on ebay at a discounted price, if anyone is interested. Links below:

That’s along the lines of what I’m thinking. I wonder if it’s possible to add a hole to poke a key or something to operate the hazards. I’ve never used the fancy parking feature, so no loss there. And I don’t use the parking brake, being a flatlander.

I understand what you are saying. I made it so it just rests on top and can easily be removed and placed to the side.

Maybe I’m missing something, but what’s wrong with the way it looks now? What function does that thing serve? It’s not attractive at all. No offense ?

The purpose was to stop accidental pushing of the buttons. Several times when I was traveling with my dog she stepped on the buttons. It appeared to me that others had encountered this as well, so I created the covers. I agree the center console is attractive. My cover was not intended to replace the center console, but merely protect the buttons when traveling with your pets. Sorry it’s not to your liking.
