This is not the first apparent leak of Apple's upcoming CarPlay overhaul. In November, regulatory images showed how CarPlay could manage a car's functions, such as a speedometer, with the interface also adopting the manufacturer's logo.

I can see widget being available to any CarPlay capable car. But I agree with you on the hyped integrated experience.

Why do you think Ford won't enable CarPlay 2.0? Ford already publicly stated that they'll support it.

I’ll just say my trust in Ford keeping their promises is starting to grow (soon is slowly becoming a reality for some of us), but as far a I know, they haven’t said anything about bringing CarPlay 2.0 (if that’s what they call the full takeover version) to our cars. Could be wrong as I have been in the past, but lemme know if I still am. They doing a real good job with the OTA updates on our cars as it is.

the Android-based infotainment system being used in the newer Lincolns and Fords, I could totally see the next-gen CarPlay being supported there as not only do those cars have the modern looks for it (which our cars already have), they also most importantly have the guts and brains for it (which our cars prolly don’t have, according to complaints on these forums).

The Android Automotive Operating system should start appearing in Mach-e’s in 2026 or possibly 2027 depending upon how far back they slid things with the model refresh.

Right, and if their word on updating the car to no longer have a 5-sec limiter is anything to go by, it means a hardware update. In other words, new model year car.

Ford’s been pretty decent with otas on our cars if you turn a blind eye to the timing and actual availability, but I wouldn’t hold my breath on them literally replacing an entire legacy operating system with something so completely different ota. There’s just too much that could go wrong, not to mention the 2021 hardware in our cars might not even support it.
