Hey just wanted to follow up and make sure those of you that replaced this frunk part that it’s still solved the problem?? I don’t want to do all this work and pay the $ just to have the issue not be solved or come back fairly quickly.

Yes it's still working since I replaced the stuck actuator.

Well, I have 1500 miles left on warranty. And while I’d rather do the work myself, then I would have to buy the actuator myself. So I took it to the dealer for that sweet sweet warranty work. I took the write-up in with me and the mechanic wouldn’t even touch the paper. He acted like the paper was a biohazard. We’ll see when I get the car back.

Update,
The Ford tech did disassemble the striker loop for the latch and got it apart without breaking anything. Got the car back in a few hours and am continuing to drive while waiting on the new electric actuator. Thanks to Mach-Lee for this write up.

I'm really impressed you found a non-destructive method to get around this. My first MME (a '21 Select) was off the road for a couple weeks and I thought it was truly the dumbest thing to ever take a car out of commission. The dealer actually sent the car to a body shop to cut the striker and install a new one.

I have a theory: a frunk can wind up being open and closed far more often than a hood on an ICE. Particularly in my case, since I keep my mobile charger in the frunk and was using it constantly, and I'm not sure Ford's engineers considered this. After having this happen I'm far more cautious about using my frunk.

I mostly use the mechanical lever to open the frunk for this very reason. Of course my doing that doesn’t tell Ford that I am using the frunk. ?‍♂?

My frunk is also stuck. I can't open it or close it. I went to Ford and they charged me $240 for a diagnostic check(gross). They said my warranty expired at 36k and I am at 37k (OF COURSE).

this is not my fault - should ford be responsible for this?

i am waiting to hear back but this experience has been frustrating as hell.

I would suggest buying the part, then bringing it with these instructions to an independent shop for the repair since you're out of warranty.

This is slightly off-topic but maybe good to keep hood-latch info in one place.
My frunk will release from the app and from the keypad. The problem is the release latch in the cabin footwell does nothing.
I quickly scanned your pictures and instructions for the the front striker. It looks like there should be a cable coming from the handle in the footwell to the striker motor; is that right?
I'm trying to decide where to start the investigation to decide what needs to be fixed.
Thanks, John

Yes, your manual release cable probably broke.

I use the app or the info button all the time
This was not on my radar
Hoping I can get this resolved this weekend, and Ford can fix it later

Thanks for the write up @MachLee

After campaigning for the remote release for 2021 Jobs 1s for do long, stuff like this is why I’ve used the remote frunk releases exactly once since they came to 2021 job 1 cars. I double pull. ;)
