Regardless of whether the article's scepticism and/or implications are valid, I personally consider anything other than the status quo (at Ford's software division) as potentially a good thing? ?

Businesses are expensive to operate, and most car manufacturers are (and will be) tightening their belts. Add on top of that the tariff war and associated costs, and we'll be lucky we don't see multiple car companies go under by the end of 2025. In case no one's noticed -- many (most?) people can't afford the cars they have, let alone newer even more expensive cars. I have a reliable income and still downsized my automotive life with the MME lease, as my finances were even getting tight with an expensive car payment, gas, maintenance, and expensive insurance.

From purely a tech standpoint, there maybe some losses here directly tied to implementation of artificial intelligence in their software design or support processes, and they're using all the increased costs associated with tariffs to mask that knowing it's been a hot topic for a while (job losses to AI).

The actual apps is probably a small team. This announcement reads like a wider cut to the 'software department', meaning pretty much everything digital.

I always hate to hear this because it means 350 people's lives just got upended majorly. While the Ford software's team appears to be quite shit, I would imagine most of these individuals were hard working and either had bad direction or weren't a great fit for the job. Either way, it sucks.

Now, the more callous side of me says blow the team completely up and start from scratch.
