We spent a few days on the Outer Banks for the first time in about 25 years for our anniversary. It's 160 miles one way from Greenville, NC to Buxton, NC. We started with 81% SOC showing 262 miles of range and arrived with 100 miles remaining and achieved 3.9 miles per kW with a light tailwind on the way there. There are two choices for charging while in the Hatteras, Avon, Buxton, Friscoe area. A ChargePoint 125kw charger at the Avon pier for .27 cents a kW or the freshly installed V4 Tesla Supercharger station with 12 stalls at the Food Lion shopping center in Avon. The Chargepoint station would only deliver 55kW while we walked the Avon Pier but at least it's cheap. Plug n charge didn't not work at this station so we used the Chargepoint app with no problems. The Tesla station delivered 148kW @ .49 cent per kW with Plug n Charge and there are lots of things at that shopping center to do while you charge. We toured the Hatteras light house, graveyard of the Atlantic museum, Bodie Island light house, Roanoake aquarium, and generally laid around on the beach for several days. Our favorite meal out was the amazing Cobia fish tacos and crab cake sandwich at Buxton Munch restaurant. It was amazing to see how much Hatteras and the OBX has changed in the last 25 years. We faced a steady head wind on the way home and barely managed 3.2 miles per kW. We were able to use Bluecruise for a decent stretch of hwy 64 and it worked well.

Good to see things have gotten better with that Tesla SC. We did the drive up the outer banks back in 2021. That ChargePoint was basically THE charger out there. We were able to charge overnight at a B&B while another one only had the Tesla Destination units which we didn’t have an adapter for. I did scope out every level 2 charger all the way up in case that ChargePoint wasn’t working. Also got an hour or so at Brew pub while we ate.

Oh yeah, the ferry ride set off the alarm several times.

Thanks for posting this! My wife and I have recently been discussing an OBX trip this fall, so knowing where the chargers are really helps.

That Tesa SC station in Nags Head in front of the Food Lion is a V3, not a V4. Which is irrelevant for MME owners anyway. Just want to be sure there is no confusion.

Like I said, the brand new SC station in AVON is 12 stalls and V4. At no point didn't I mention Nags Head. Thank you for the reminder though. V4 stations are not irrelevant for MME owners since they don't require any parking gymkana just for the cable to reach.

Kewl I’ve always used Tesla superchargers w my ā€˜24 MME and 98% of those were V3s

Thanks for posting this! My wife and I have recently been discussing an OBX trip this fall, so knowing where the chargers are really helps.
A few tips.

The Bodie Island lighthouse requires tickets and reservations to climb but is very worth it.
The Bodies Island visitor center is closed due to a fire.
The Hatteras lighthouse is closed for renovations but the visitor center is open.

I stand corrected! That's great news.
