Hi Everyone,

After multiple back and forth conversations with 2 dealers and ford directly, I decided to cancel my order and just buy another Tesla. It seems as though Fords challenges with their dealer network are insurmountable at this time and I was not willing to spending any more time to get them to correct the order.

I think you all will have a great car in the Mach-E once it arrives and hope to watch Ford's transformation over the next 3-5 years.

Good luck and happy driving folks!

Sad to hear this, but very understandable. If you are willing, could you share some of the details on the challenges you faced? Feel free to leave out names to protect the innocent if you want :) There is at least 1 confirmed dealer on this forum (and likely at least several others), and there are several confirmed Ford employees here as well. If you could provide honest feedback and criticism, perhaps it will make it back to Ford executives and force positive change.

Thanks again for the update, good luck. Oh, and which Tesla you springing for?

My story is too long and boring for this forum but the long and short of it is that I had to cancel and resubmit 3 orders tying up 1500 bucks because the dealers were unwilling to update the features that I had requested in my original order to reflect AWD over RWD. I own a Model S and a Model 3 already, so I just went online ordered a Black on Black Model Y Long Range and it arrived 2 days after I clicked order.

I am not sure how to shut off this account and am still super excited to see these things on the road.. but the buying experience in the non tesla world sucks.

I’m not sure how to phrase this without sounding like a dick but I assure you I’m not trying to be one. I’m genuinely curious. If you have an S and a 3 already, why are you getting a MachE or a Y in the first place? You’ve already got a nice fleet

Im selling the S it was a 14 and the charging curve sucks. I modified the S lowered, Custom headlights, next gen seats.. but the old battery chemistry and degradation made it useless for all but city commutes.

My 3 is a beast and my Y is now the family hauler. Also, I am from NY so you definitely would have to go a lot further to come across like a dick.. haha

If you are on Twitter, I recommend Tweeting this and tagging Ford, Jim Farley, Mike Levine, and Emma Berg. They need to hear this. Dealers are repeatedly turning into Ford's weakest link.

This. And based on my experience, all three read directed Tweets and respond often.

Ford seriously needs to work on their dealers ruining the buying experience. I also bought a Tesla 3 last year and the experience was awesome and super smooth.
Just thinking about calling Ford about my order gives me shivers. It would be too bad if Mach E is a fail because of Ford dealer network that in reality should have been its advantage over Tesla.

Dear Ford.

Below is my list of new Fords I have purchased, (I like to believe that somewhere in Hawaii there is a UAW member with a Pina Colada in his hands thanking me for his retirement money).

1985 Ford Tempo
1996 SVT Mustang
1998 Ford Ranger
2000 F350 Cut away, (class c motor home)
2002 F150
2004 SVT Mustang
2006 F350
2007 Shelby GT500
2015 F350
2017 Ford Explore
2018 F450 Cut away (class c motorhome)
2018 F150
2019 Mustang GT

Upcoming 2021 Mach E

Don't screw it up! Get your dealers in line! Tesla keeps calling asking if I'm ready for a test drive....

My story is too long and boring for this forum but the long and short of it is that I had to cancel and resubmit 3 orders tying up 1500 bucks because the dealers were unwilling to update the features that I had requested in my original order to reflect AWD over RWD. I listened to 2 dealerships moan about the reservation system and Ford corporate and was just over it.

I own a Model S and a Model 3 already, so I just went online ordered a Black on Black Model Y Long Range and it arrived 2 days after I clicked order.

Agreed. Please do tell them what happened on Twitter and make it public.
That's embarrassing for Ford and I know it's not entirely in their control, since Dealers are independent, but I wonder how many times this has happened besides your story.
I am lucky my dealer has been cooperative, competent, and proactive for me.
Congrats on your Y!

Think you did it right. You took the actions available to you to get the changes you want but the dealers were not willing to work with you and you moved on. Hopefully you don't have the same trouble getting your refunds

Keep in mind that RWD vs. AWD is fundamentally a different VIN code. So it's not possible to "change" an existing order ... only to cancel and re-order a different vehicle configuration. This is also true of Tesla (the motor configuration is part of the VIN).

Of course Tesla cannot build and deliver a car in two days... when you go the Tesla route you're getting a car that was already manufactured and happens to match what you want. This is completely different with the Mach-E because cars being delivered right now are all pre-orders that were put in a year before the cars were built.

If you do a "Search Inventory" at Ford.com you can find Mach-E's on dealer lots that are available to buy -- typically retail orders where the buyer backed out. But it is a way to get a car quickly.
