Maybe I'm missing something in the context of your comment but Android Auto is in the Mach E and it works way better than Apple Carplay.

I think he meant Android Automotive aka Google Built In aka Ford Digital Experience, which was rumored to be replacing SYNC in 2023 for Mach-E and Lightning.

Technically they met that deadline with the Lincoln Nautilus which was released in 2023 in China and was the first FoMoCo product with the Google based system.

I think we all expected them to port that system to current models (eg same screen layout as SYNC with new software) but it seems they are waiting for at least a major refresh if not a new model generation to put in a completely new/different system. As seen in the new Explorer and Expedition.

Because there is an open recall on the car due to the issue with the 12v battery and the door locks, posted in the forum.

It is against federal law to sell, or test drive, vehicles with open recalls.

That's what dealers are suppose to do with a "Stop Sale", but some dealers don't follow the rules as we've seen.

Well, that's just playing it safe. Put the "stop sale" cars in a secured area and a manager keeps the keys. Otherwise you know some salesman is going to take one out for a customer to drive and even get the paperwork started to sell it!?

I have a Job 2 2021, and it's been extremely reliable, so I'm thinking maybe I will keep it forever.

I don't think 2025s are more reliable than 2021 Job 2, but if you have a Job 1, then any of the newer models may be significantly more reliable. (I am ignoring the HVBJB failure issue here - that part is probably more reliable now - unless you've already gotten it replaced in which case you may already have the newer, more reliable part). I believe there are some improvements in charge speeds, but they have been minor. Other new features and improvements also are minor.

I think the technical differences have been hashed out really well by folks with more knowledge than mine. I can just tell you I’ve had a ‘25 GT for ~1.5 months now and it’s hands down my favorite car I’ve owned since the MINI S standard shift I owned in my 20s. The tech works well. Yeah, there’s about .5s lag when I change cabin temp, and the Siri voice in CarPlay crackles sometimes, but the car LEAPS to whatever speed I ask, handles as well as any car of this size I’ve ever driven (only the MINI was more like a go kart, but that’s plain old physics), and BlueCruise is a game changer on my commute (30 miles on a heavily traveled CT highway corridor).

The app isn’t perfect, but the ability to start the climate (or keep it going for the dogs when I want to stop off for a coffee), the phone as key, and the other integrated tech things are pretty great. We have a ‘24 Audi, and the iPhone integration and CarPlay stuff work way better on the Ford.

So I can’t tell ya if this or that widget is improved from 21 to 25, but I can tell you the 25 GT is an absurdly fun car with a practical bent for commuting, and more luxe with better tech integration than the MINI, BMW, Mazda, Subaru, or 2 Audis we have owned in the last 15 years. Well, the Audis won on interior surfaces and general luxury vibe, but not on pickup or tech.

How do you know what Job it is?

Based on production date. Cars produced before ~July 2021 were Job 1, and those produced after were Job 2.

You can also tell by whether the car has a traction control button next to the headlight dial on the dashboard - 2021 Job 1 did not have that button, Job 2 did.

Oh now I have to go look at my wife's buttons. She has a 21 Job 1 but I could swear I have hit that button adjusting display brightness.

I currently have a 2021 premium awd extended range that, despite having some MAJOR issues (I’m looking at you, front camera fault) that have resulted in a dozen or so service trips, is my favorite car to date. I’m considering upgrading, though, after having just completed another major recall. My major questions—

Is the 2025 more reliable than the first gen 2021 or are there still major hiccups in the system?

Has battery charging (speed) improved?

Are there any other factors/features that make the 2025 worthwhile?

Honestly, I’d keep my 2021 forever if I wasn’t concerned it won’t last me. FWIW, she’s got 70k miles, been driven hard, and is still a champ. But in addition to replacing the cameras and everything connected to them about 9 times, we’ve replaced a front motor, speaker, major recall for the battery, etc. I don’t know if it’s first gen issues or Ford, but I’ll never buy a first gen again. I would buy a Mach-E again despite my reservations.

I was in the same spot you are, I was in love with my 21 Select, it was perfect. But the price I had to pay to get her in '21 wasn't (the pandemic car crunch was still going strong), and I knew I was overpaying for the car even though I had a zero-interest loan. So when my equity had piled up a enough and I was starting to have back to back HVJB issues that yes were covered under the warranty but still a giant PIA (Died in a covered parking garage and I got a quick master class in tow trucks) I decided to give my wallet a break and went with a 24 Premium lease. (wanted the glass roof)

It was almost identical; in fact, most people didn't realize it was a different car. I had it for three weeks, and someone smashed it, so I was back on the market, and due to great promotions Ford was running, and the tariff scares, most of the 24s were gone. Enter my 25 Premium - price is okay, not as good as the deal I had on the 24, but still less than I was paying on the 21.

IMO there are two main physical differences, the stalk shifter, which I loath, not that I was a big fan of the spinning dial, but it made more sense than the stalk as far as the positioning of the "gears". Up for reverse and down for Drive doesn't live well in my brain, and I have to focus on it to make sure I'm selecting the right direction. The dial at least had the traditional progression of a gear shift PRND, in that order. Come to think of it, I've no idea how to put the 25 in Neutral, as I haven't had to yet in the month I've had it.

The other difference is a notably smaller frunk. I really don't use mine but if you do use yours you're going to miss a lot of functionality based on the size.

Is the ride smoother? For me I give that a "Maybe." I've driven it less than 500 miles so far so hard to tell. I think any new car with new tires probably feels smoother than one that is 4 years old so hard to grade that one for me.

Things that I do like that are different in the 25 - the console is configured a little different and you have a cell phone holder kind of like a cupholder (you also have a french fry holder but we won't get into that ) Any way I find the console config more functional.

The range is greater - I don't have the extended range and didn't before but I get about 100 more miles if I remember correctly. I had 195 max on the 21 and now I sitting at 45% and my range is 137. While I've only charged it once on a DC charger it took 15 minutes to add 112 miles. The rest of the time I just plug it in at home on a level 1 and it's stayed above 50% without me really thinking about it much. But range isn't a big thing for me - see above had the car a month, odometer is at 348.
