Heya!

This is mostly a winter / dark season problem, but: Calm mode does not suitable blackening out the screen. Thus, I want some sort of cover to put on the screen to black it out when I do not need to engange with it.

Are there some options, or would my best bet be to let a friend of mine 3d print a cover? If so, are there some really detailed illustrations with correct dimensions as a base? If so my idea would be to either make a version with open hole for the knob, or one with elevated part to hide the knob altogheter. Attached a rough sketch of how it could look (left side is profile image, right side is front image).

I haven't seen a commercial screen cover. You might want to consider a fabric that allows air to cool the screen instead of a heavy plastic cover, though.

That is a good point actually, thanks.
I guess a cloth of some sort is the option then, problem is that likely can't be printed. Maybe a tailor is what I need? Guess a construction of some sort with a cloth either wrapped around the screen or a cloth with elastic rubber bands on the back for further tightening?

Cloth and elastic is a lot cheaper and easier than a big sheet of 3d printed plastic, too.

Construction will depend on how nice you want it to look. A simple rectangular piece of fabric with a casing for elastic around it will work but look, IMO, ugly and bunched around the sides.

A more constructed rectangular piece, more like a box would look better but take a bit more time.

What's it worth to you?

Good ideas, thank you! I guess anything that is easily to put on and remove will work. If it looks like ass, then I can live with that.

About those clothes/fabric types: Used a good chunk of my morning on researching various options. Could not find something in the right dimensions (15.5 inch), thus a at a loss what to do next. Maybe I’ll go full caveman and throw a blanket over it and call it day haha!

Do you have anyone you work with or in your family that is crafty? I imagine a properly shaped patch of fabric with some elastic sewn around the edge would suit your needs.

Could always ask my wife, but who knows what the price will be for such a favour ……(PTSD after she forced me to accept vacation with mother in law once as a payment for a other service)

Maybe use one of those tablet/laptop sleeves made from neoprene and make suitable cutouts to put it over the screen? I'm sure they are available in the right size as the MME's center screen looks like it uses a pretty standard aspect ratio.

Well, the blanket will certainly work.

Just my opinion, but it would depend on whose ass it looks like whether or not I could live with it!!

You will likely have to buy some portion of yardage and cut it down.

This is one option

I would go with this one:

A quick approach would be to cut a piece of fabric as wide as you need (including some to finish the edges) and a bit longer. Then I'd fix velcro to the back of the screen at the top and the bottom, with the corresponding pieces of velcro to the fabric and voila! You attach the velcro at the top and let the fabric cover the front of the screen and connect it at the bottom.

Something like this: Make it longer at the bottom to cover the knob. You'll get some light leakage around the sides but better than a blanket. YMMV

ETA: if you go with polyester, you won't have to sew anything and can "finish" the edges so that they don't fray with a flame. Carefully of course. If this is new to you, practice first.

EATA: I should have said synthetic and not polyester which is highly flammable.

Something like pu leather that attaches with magnets like iPad covers would probably look best.

Assuming there is something magnetic it could attach to.

Lots of faux leather options on Amazon. I expect there are fabric stores in Norway, like Selfmade in Oslo

I personally would not use velcro on any black surface that is likely to see direct sunlight. The glue could make a mess.

OK, but I'm compelled to point out that neither location I suggest for velcro sees direct sunlight.
