I purchased the AOSK Phone Holder. It didn't work out as a phone holder for me so I decided to put it to another use. I thought it might be modified to provide some cooling for the SYNC screen. If you have ever touched the back of the screen on a sunny day you know how incredibly hot it is. The first thing I did was cut a rectangular hole in the back of the AOSK phone holder. I cut two holes for small fans in the piece (freehand, no hole saw, obviously
).
I then mounted the fans to the cut piece and attached it to the phone holder with a plastic border providing 1/4" stand off between the fans and the back of the SYNC screen.
I glued a small 6" x 1/4" x 1/4" shelf to the bottom edge of the opening for the micro solar panels to sit on. I attached the panels to the fans, ran a test and the fans spin rapidly even in a slight overcast.
Reinstalled the phone holder and the fans are spinning away. I haven't done any tests and I imagine the cooling effect is not great but better than nothing. Besides, I was bored.
