This morning, I got into my 2023.5 Mach E, and there’s absolutely no audio output. I’ve tried restarting the system (vol down + advance button), but as seen in This video, there’s no way to change volume or switch inputs (e.g. SiriusXM to FM). Even when using CarPlay, nothing is coming through any of my streaming apps or other sources.

When I check the settings, the sound module is disabled.

What could be causing this issue? Has anyone else encountered similar problems?

Not sure if it’s related, about a week ago, I had a 12 V error.

I’d appreciate any help or suggestions you may have.

Either disconnect the battery, or Mach Lee documented BMS reset here (For a different purpose, but might be worth a try.

the first 5 steps… and if that does not work- not sure what to advise - (outside of a trip to the dealer- and get them to look at the 12V glitch.

BMS Reset Method

This method should be considered "last resort" since it resets 12V BMS (battery management system) learned parameters. The 12V battery must be close to full charge before resetting the BMS (via one of the above methods). The best method is to disconnect the 12V battery, fully charge it, reconnect it, and reset the BMS. WARNING: Do not reset the BMS on a suspected failing battery, as this can potentially cause an OTA to BRICK the car if the 12V battery dies during the update. Resetting the BMS tells the computer you have a brand new battery at 100% heath, if the battery is way off from this it can cause major issues. If you have doubts about a failing battery before resetting the BMS, contact me for assistance.
  1. Press the START button without pressing the brake (ACCESSORY mode)
  2. Flash the high beams with the stalk 5x
  3. Press the brake pedal 3x
  4. Battery icon on instrument cluster should flash 3x
  5. Turn OFF the car and open the driver's door.

Not sure what you mean by this statement. Edit- never mind, I see “audio off” in the video.

Also, do other normal noises come from your speakers? Turn signals, parking sensor alarms, etc?

Also have you tried using voice commands to turn things on? Or the controls on your steering wheel?

The only sound that comes out is if the proximity sensors believe that the car is too close to anything else… that said it is a different sound than normal, much more basic, like they put in a backup if the ford sync fails, it feels very Cold War era.

BMS reset won't fix glitches (it's only used if you get a new 12V battery), it needs to be a 12V disconnect. Remove the negative battery cable for 5 minutes and reconnect.

The fact that the proximity sensor sound is different than normal confirms a guess: your SYNC system sound isn't working, while the IPC sound is. This could be due to a low battery (the battery drain message you got last week points in that direction too). If you can, charge the 12V battery. If you don't have the equipment or don't know how, take the car on a long drive. The 12V battery should charge enough to resolve the problems. Either way (directly charging the 12V or doing it on a long drive) you may also need to remove/wait 5 minutes/reconnect the negative lead as @Mach-Lee suggests in order to reset all your modules... Good luck.

Sorry all for the beginner question but how do I disconnect the negative cable? Just remove the nut? And how careful do I need to be when touching this?

I realize that nobody cares as much as I do, but thank you all, and @Mach-Lee gave great guidance to the negative as that fixed my issue. Super thankful for this group!

Unscrew it yup. Careful not to strip it.

And as far as “careful,” always wear gloves.

Shorting a 12v is no joke. Instantly melts metal and would mess you up.

Glad you got it off. Did the reset fix the problem?
