I am currently limited to charging on a 120v outlet as well. Electrical upgrade coming soon....ish.

Anyway, been charging like this since mid January with the Ford mobile charger and have had zero issues. I am Fords included charger is not the best solution but....here I am ?‍♂
Next month will be four years I've been using the Ford Mobile Charger on a dedicated 220v circuit in my garage. On rare occasions (maybe 3-5 times in that time) the EVSE has shown an Orange Error State on its face-plate, which has always been easily cleared by a quick power recycle. A couple of times I took it on the road for a 120v charge-up and had no issues. Knock on wood for continued successful operations, as I plan to keep the MME for a several more years. CCS charging has been much more lacking in reliability than the FMC in my case.

Beware of creating a fire hazard. Even though it is "only" 120 VAC, it's still a continous 1200 W draw.

1. No extension cords.

2. 20A circuit only.

3. 20A outlet in new or like-new condition.

4. If you are in a retirement community, ask someone important to give you full permission.

5. Have whoever does electrical work in your community to approve what you are doing.

If you have a dedicated 20 amp 120V outlet (not powering the opener or anything else), as is found in many garages, you can have it converted to 240V by replacing the breaker and the receptacle. The wiring is the same. Install a NEMA 6-20 receptacle and use a good 16 amp 240V EVSE. Personally, I’m a big fan of the AeroVironment/Webasto TurboCord and TurboCord Dual units. You can often find new old stock on eBay for cheap (~$100). Some units are branded as BMW or Mini.

A 16 amp 240V EVSE will charge (effectively) about 3x faster than L1 (12 amp 120V).

Oh, and FYI… the TurboCord is 240V only. The TurboCord Dual is 120/240V.

The car won’t draw more than 12A on 120V.
Oh, so I don't need to limit it in the app? I've only used the charger after setting it to 12A manually (since it's technically a continuous load and should only be 80% of breaker size was my reason), so I don't actually know if the breaker will trip if I set it above that. Good to know, thank you for this info!
