What I really don’t get is why, a decade ago, was I able to update my sync system with a thumb drive and now on a newer system I can’t. I get they are different systems, but it makes no sense.

Pop in your VIN and it'll tell you what your SYNC version is and if you need an update, you can download it and install away.

This is for Sync 3 cars. Ford doesn't publish Sync 4 updates this way, at least so far.

Curious how you're getting those updates... Maybe in the elusive VIP club? (Not EA, I think there's some actual beta testers with an NDA?)

I would absolutely LOVE an update to the brake-by-wire system. It is FAR too touchy-grabby and has almost no travel before just grabbing friction brakes by force.

I am most certainly not a VIP. However, I am retired from Ford and my Mach E is leased through Ford's Management Lease Program. I don't have any explanation of the updates. However, we are at times treated as guinea pigs since we are a captive audience and, if asked, can give more immediate feedback on any issues (I haven't been asked, by the way).

The update did help brake feel IMO. I don't generally use 1PD, but drive more like a hybrid. Once 100% regen is reached, it's now on the pads, but more gently. But there is still a lot of noise from the pads -- not exactly grinding but rubbing and the noise is noticeable. I assume it's hardware related and software updates won't help.

Your vehicle being through management lease effectively means you are a VIP
