"You can only claim the credit once for each qualifying vehicle. The tax credit must be claimed in the year when you purchased and began to use your new fully electric or plug-in hybrid model car or fully electric two-wheeled vehicle.

However, if you purchase a separate qualified fully electric or plug-in hybrid vehicle in another year, or two separate qualified cars in the same year, then you can still claim the tax credit for the other vehicle. It is not a once-in-a-lifetime tax credit in that sense."

The part where you said “I purchased a Mach-E and an EV6 this year”? I did read that, and it didn’t jibe with the rest of your statement about them being delivered later this year, hence my clarifying question. It matters since there’s no guarantee the full credit will be available the entire year. But it sound like you don’t need my help, so good luck.

You can claim both. It is the date you register the vehicle. I was even able to claim the credit on an ID.4 that was purchased back by VW since it was registered in my name. So I got 2 credits one for my Mach E and the ID.4 for the 2021 tax year. ID.4 was registered May '21 and Mach E Jul '21. The challenge is you can only get refunded what was withheld (you paid in taxes).

If you can determine that you will have the tax liability to cover both credits, you may consider lowering tax withholdings for the remainder of the year. Why give the government an interest free loan?
