If Ford decides to add videogames, the knob would be PERFECT for Tetris. Just saying.

Seriously, I like the idea of tapping temp or fan speed, and then twisting the knob.
To me that seems like it must have been the intent of the designers but the software wasn't done for launch, it's just *too* logical to have the knob be contextual.

There is already a door release mechanical door release in case of emergency. It is the same handle as the electronic door release but you keep pulling it all the way back to activate the mechanical override.
The frunk can currently ONLY be released by the mechanical lever in the driver's footwell. That was a "safety" change made within the last six months when the frunk divider was also added. Originally the keyfob had a frunk button and there was the ability to open the frunf from the app. Somewhere a lawyer decided that kids could potentially get trapped in the frunk so the electronic releases got disabled AND the divider got added. Ford has recently stated that they are working on a "fix" so that the electronic releases can be enabled.

What do you think about hitting the cruise control button, then using the 'volume knob' to dial in your preferred speed over the limit....or even the preferred distance between cars?

Don't give a hoot on any of them.
Not ready to buy a MME Premium ER AWD until mid '21, and I am a Ford Fanboy so as long as the cars are now on their way to customers, that's all I care about.
And all these things are out of all of our control so it's not worth my time to worry about any of it.

Not sure it's quite up to video game controller specs. I'd hate to have a bunch of knobs yanked off when faced with a flurry of falling blocks!

That could be cool, but might be too much of distraction from the road.

The same two things can be done from the steering wheel I believe... which is safer not sure.

Some of my own predictions -

  • I think Ford will end up with about 75,000 Mach-E's sold in 2021
  • The first OTA updates will be functional but minor, but before the GT is released, an OTA will increase the range just slightly
  • Other OTA updates will include media partners - YouTube Music (and YouTube), Pandora, etc.
  • The GT will roll off the line July and reach customers in August
  • A darker blue and a green will be added for 2022
  • Ford will announce an Edge sized EV SUV is in development
  • F stock will be at $14.50 next December
  • An OTA for an electric release for the frunk will come just in time for summer BBQs

After the sh**show that was 2020, does anyone want to make predictions for 2021? Of course, this is a Mach-E forum, so I'm thinking about Mach-E or EV related predictions...

Possible predictions:
  • Over/under for number of Mach-E's sold in 2021
  • Date the first GTs are shipped
  • Final 0-60 numbers for the GT Performance Edition
  • Will there be a special edition of the GT (Shelby?)
  • First OTA feature added
  • Will mileage be increased via OTA or stay the same?
  • What changes will be introduced for the 2022 model year
  • Will there be any new colors introduced?
  • Will the volume knob do anything besides volume control?
  • Ford stock price at the end of 2021
  • ??? Your own Mach-E or EV predictions ???
I'm curious to see what people think. I just started the process to make a end of year video for YouTube, but maybe I'll make it a prediction video with some of the highlights from here.
1. 68,000 +
2. September 14
3. 3.3 seconds
4. Not until 2023
5. There will be 17 new features added in the first OTA update. Which one is first depends upon which one you see first.
6. Range hike via efficiency improvements not via changing battery reserves.
7. Trailer hitch in 2022.
8. Yes. The Mach-e will have 50 Shades of Gray.
9. The knob will become the iconic innovation of the Mach-e. Copies will appear on other EV’s, aftermarket hacks will appear followed by knob upgrades.
10. Higher than the close of December 31, 2020.

10= $21 by 2022, even if only .15 dividends the expectation will cause it to go higher.

Edge sized BEV or Phev ... sign me up if range is reasonable. Will be looking to replace my current SUV in two years

1. 72,000 in MY2021 (including all models and markets)
2. September 3 2021
3. 3.2 seconds
4. Not until MY2022
5. Too many to count
6. Same
7. Nothing major
8. Two more shades of gray
9. Yes
10. 12
11. a. Tesla will be included in wrongful death suits over false claims regarding FSD and Autopilot.
b. Most new BEVs planned for 2021 and 2022 release will be late
c. batteries will get cheaper
d. Co-Pilot Assist Hands-Free will be awesome
I agree with most except for #7 they will introduce a heat pump for 2022 MY, there's a rumor that they might ad it to the 2021 GT. I also would like have to have adjustable AC current charge like on the Tesla cars.

I certainly hope so, it's kinda wasted real estate as it is, I feel.

I know I'm never going to use it for volume, but if it was a quick temperature knob, maybe even a fan speed knob, now we're talking. Volume is so much more convenient on the steering wheel, I still don't quite get the need for the knob if all it does is volume.
What about the passenger ?

That’s a great idea. I’ve had a number of passengers for which I’d like to have a volume knob.
