Hi everyone, I had a question.

So the 2022 California ER AWD is estimated to do 312 miles with a 91kwh batter, and the 2022 premium ER AWD is expected to do 277 miles with a 91kw battery. Both having the same battery size, could I assume that because the California has smaller rims, the range increased? So if I downgrade the size of my rims on the premium, I can get the same range as the California (gaining that extra 35 miles)? Thank you

You will get better range but not as good as the premium model is a little heavier, due to all features but close. I bought A Set of route 1 take offs for my 21 premium ER AWD and I will be testing this spring To see what I get. One issue is the 312 miles is with the RWD Route 1, I think. An AWD will not get as good as that.

@Nklem that is awesome that you are doing this! I have been on the look out for some Rt.1 wheels on eBay and the like to replace on our 21 Premium ER AWD to try for the same reason. We wanted the features of the Premium and wanted AWD but did not care that much about the increased wheel size. I would be interested in what you find out.

Yes. I cannot wait until the snow is gone and to test. You can get these on Marketplace for a very reasonable cost. I will run an test loop with these and my 19” premiums and log it all.

One thing to also consider - The ‘21 4X was tested by Edmunds in their comprehensive EV Range Test and scored a range of 304 miles against it’s 270 EPA rating. They use a 60/40 city/hwy loop and test all EVs the same so it’s apples/apples. The extra 3kWh battery capacity could push the ‘22 4X to 310+ miles by their methodology. This may be enough range for you to consider keeping the OEM 19” wheel/tire combo.

Yes I saw the post from Edmunds. The reason I am looking to downside is we often road trip to the north during the winter from Texas for snowboarding and such. In fact in 4 months we have put 10,000 miles on Our Mach-E (we got it at the end of October) driven from Texas to D.C twice in fact, and are driving to Colorado next month again. So I am looking for the best way to get the most range on highway only driving.
Our Travel in Texas and around our area the Mach-E has plenty of range, but long road trip of 800+ miles when the temperature is below 30° Is a little rough (only about 170 miles of highway range) so if downsizing the rims gets is 10 miles of more range in these conditions we will do it.
I know we are a strange one but my family are in DC and Colorado, and my work schedule allows me to travel more druring the winter than the summer.
