You have the Cold Weather Guess-O-Meter Blues. ??

The things you can do: Drive slower. Precondition the battery while on shore power by setting departure times. Readjust your inflation pressures semi-weekly. Use the HVAC less. Wait for warmer weather. ??

Winter. Even Florida gets cold, relatively speaking. Do you use heat? That's it. Don't use heat. Suck it up and your efficiency will improve.

It sounds like you’re noticing some range adjustments, and I can understand how that might feel unsettling at first. Seasonal changes, especially colder weather, can significantly impact your range estimates. Let me share some perspective from our experience with two Mach-Es in the family (a standard-range and a GT).

Colder temperatures can reduce range because the car uses more energy to heat the cabin and maintain the battery temperature. For example, here in southeast North Carolina, we see about a 30% drop in range during winter months, which aligns with what many EV owners experience.

A Story About Range Anxiety: My wife’s standard-range Mach-E has been amazing for over a year and a half, and range anxiety has almost never been an issue. However, just last week, she went on a long road trip. The car came back with 23% battery, and she needed to drive about 15–16 miles to work the next morning, plus stop in the car line for our child. It was 23°F outside, and the guess-o-meter estimated 43 miles of range. Sitting in the car line with the heat on used about 3% of the battery, and she eventually turned the heat off to conserve power. Long story short, she got to work with 11% left—plenty of charge, but that was the first time she really felt range anxiety. Even then, the car performed just fine, but it’s a reminder that winter driving requires a little more planning.

What you’re experiencing is completely normal, especially as you’re adjusting to how EV range behaves differently than a gas car. Even things like tire pressure, driving habits, and heater usage can make a noticeable difference. Here’s what I suggest:

1. Winter Efficiency Tips:

• Precondition the car while it’s plugged in so the battery and cabin are warmed up before driving.

• Use heated seats and the steering wheel instead of the cabin heater when possible—they’re more energy-efficient.

• Check tire pressure; cold weather often causes it to drop, which can reduce efficiency.

2. Think in Percentages: Over time, you’ll find it’s more useful to think in terms of your battery percentage rather than miles. The range estimate (or ‘guess-o-meter’) is just a prediction, and it can’t factor in every detail like heating or terrain. For example, my wife’s car usually errs on the side of caution, giving a conservative estimate of miles, but in winter weather or other extreme conditions, it might not always seem accurate.

3. Battery Health and Software: If your range drop feels extreme or continues to worry you, it’s worth asking your dealer to check the battery health. Software updates also impact the range estimate, and sometimes recalibration is needed as the battery adjusts to changing conditions.

It’s okay to feel a little anxious when you see numbers that don’t align with what you’re used to—that’s part of learning how EVs work. Trust me, we’ve all been there! But over time, you’ll adapt, and these fluctuations will feel more predictable. For us, range anxiety has been incredibly rare, even in challenging conditions. Hang in there—you’re doing great, and the Mach-E is a fantastic car! ?

I also have a 2023 GT PE and charge at home with a lever 2 Juice Box. I have @ 22,000 miles so far.
I commute twice a week for a round trip of 190 miles.
The temps in the morning when I leave for the past week for around 38 degs.
I deal with the range reduction by setting a departure time and setting comfort to warm.
My range reduction dropped from 256 miles under 70 degs weather to approximately 230 to 240 miles.
My GT does sit outside the garage because my classic truck and 1965 Mustang A Code convertible sit in the garage. ?

Put a lock on your charging port. Someone’s siphoning electrons out of your battery

Yep, that's wintertime, here in GA during warmer times I get around 250 or so on 90% charge, now around 220 perfectly normal. It's also legimitately called a GOM (guess o meter) because it will fluctuate

Only 219 miles at 90%? I have you beat at only 130 miles at 90%. And I don't even have a GT. Winter is a bitch.
