I picked up our new 2024 MachE after driving our 2021 for a few years. First thing I noticed is the usual Ford behavior - Find a way to remove costs. They did this in a F150 as well. The headrest in the 2021 had an adjustment feature where you could pull it forward and adjust it more then just the height. In the 2024 that feature was removed. I am sure it was cost savings as I saw the exact same thing happen with a different year F150's. It is just frustrating that a simple comfort feature is removed to save the almighty $$ especially when Ford talks about Customer Experience. Thanks Ford for another BAD customer experience and saving $0.05 cents.
My 23.5 premium has the tilting feature. I do like it and would be unhappy if it was gone since it enhances comfort and safety I think. I suspect you’ve thoroughly checked, but, are you sure they didn’t put a hidden lock button in that keeps the head rest locked and eliminates the kids messing with it issue?

There is no lock button. Ford removed it.

Ford sucks
Ford always remove content
Ford always charges more for less.....

Meanwhile

Owners of the previous model are upset they can't get what Ford ADDED to the current model. ???

Oh, and the current model with the added content/performance/features co$t le$$ than the previous models.

I love this forum. :)
But I really have to keep my lighthearted glasses on so I don't get sucked into the void.

This is the way.
Every time I've bought a new Ford the first 2 years have the most stuff. Then by the end you're paying for floor mats and all the little kinda nice things are gone. I could got get my wife a '17 FFE but I'd end up having to gut my '12 to put in all the crap they took out, like leather seats..
~22, ~23 was probably the sweet spot for the MME.

Only reason I know mine has the adjustable head rests is my kid turns it into a toy after an hour in the car. I can't actually use them as if I was to rest my head against it it'd be like riding in the back off the Hulk roller coaster at Universal.
I actually ordered floor mats in 2021 expecting them not to come with the car :) The dealer noticed that and canceled them from the invoice thankfully.

Great question. I will do an exhaustive look and see if there is a hidden button.

That’s unfortunate. Seems penny wise and pound foolish on Ford’s part to delete a nice touch.
Which feature should they have removed? Trying to decide which features to keep and which to cut is a balancing act. Every feature has some who dont ever use it and could care less, and those use it daily and care a lot. Trying to appeal to the most people with a price point that they will purchase. And every feature has a cost. Every ounce decreases efficiancy, and I doubt it is "just $0.05". You can buy cars with every bell and whistle for about $130k. But even those high end brands remove features. A nickel here a nickel there adds up. Same with removing weight an ounce here and an ounce there. People throw out how much something "costs" with no idea how much it really costs, the weight, benefits, etc. It's called cost /benift analysis, they are not just random items they add and remove.

Geez. I’d never thought of that. You’re enlightened me.

My daughter got an escape about a year after I got my mme. I love The headrest on mine, works great. Hers was not adjustable and super uncomfortable, pushes your head forward. My son told me take it out, turn it around and put it in backwards. That was much better, but I was really surprised it would go back in that way.

That’s the wrong way to look at it. The way to look at it is: what features can they offer, either as options, part of a package, or a trim level. Rather than the continual decontenting, Ford should have just come out with either a “Luxury” option package or a “Titanium” trim line. And for those who claim it’s too complex or difficult, may I present the F-150 Lightning for your consideration? ?

Well I hate to disagree with you but in 2021 all these features were available including the Vista roof - Like for like - Premium etc. So your 130K comparison is irrelevant. In 2021 the product had the features and the cost was even higher then the 2024 and yet in 2024 they removed elements and tried to charge more - called "De contenting". This is a common technique I KNOW Ford does (I can only speak on the Ford side). So in 2024 I had to actually add the Vista roof as an added cost that came on my exact same model as 2021 so Ford not only took content out (headrest) but charged more for features that used to be included. They are making a profit on the vehicle. Of course nickels add up to $ but Ford screws the suppliers and ultimately the customer gets a lesser featured vehicle and I know it is not random. Ford lets the accounts squeeze as much as possible and you are OK with Ford charging more while removing features. I am not happy and have never been happy with their philosophy.

Final update - and I apologize if I am picking on little things. I am a fan of good customer experience and notice little things.
#1 - Per a previous reply I looked at the headrest and definitely did NOT find the secret button to make them pivot. Moving on
#2 - Noticed the vista roof which was included in the 2021 premium is a $1500 added option - Of course I had to have that and knew I was paying extra (don't feel I should have but I did)
#3 - They removed the hands free trunk release (kick with foot).
Might be others but I still enjoy the product.

They can easily determine that the glass roof is standard equipment on a trim or package, but it increases the MSRP.

Similar to dropping the GTPE, but making much of the package standard equipment on the GT. The additional standard equipment isn't free.

However it is often good news when they include additional features as standard, because the previous price for those features might be reduced by some percentage?
