I remote started for 10 minutes before leaving the gym. When I got in the vehicle fan was on high but blowing very cool air. Put it on Max defrost but there was a pretty good build up on the inside of the windshield and after couple minutes made no difference so drove home. Again it’s less than 2 kilos so no big deal. I’m not sure why there was such a big build up of frost on the inside but possibly because it came out of a +5 Celsius garage and then sat for 2 hours in the -41 degrees. I went for a few groceries just before noon. Only -36 celcius and sunny. Although not overly warm inside no problem keeping the windshield clear at max defrost and some cabin warmth. Sun definitely makes a difference.

I expect the frost was due to the blowing of the cold air from the remote start.

I didn’t go far enough to establish a range. When I went to get groceries in the afternoon store is only 2 miles away. I only needed a few things so left the car running while shopping. When I got home it indicated 55 kWh per 100 kilometres or 62 miles.

Hmmmm. I've started and driven my Mach E and Lightning at -40 and have never seen that alert. Must be new.

I don't use the remote start to prewarm the car when running errands because the headlights and Sync Screen illuminate. Here, at -40, it is not unusual for someone to jump into a warm vehicle that is running so they can drive in warmth to the next bar. One thing I have started doing recently, when it is below -25 or so and I am running errands - I leave the vehicle running but turn off the headlights and select the calm screen so I minimize the temptation of someone deciding to steal it. Unlike an ICE vehicle, there is no exhaust steam to highlight the fact the vehicle is idling. The heater uses a maximum of 4-5 kW per hour, so unless your HVB battery has a very low charge, you can "idle" for a very long time.

Interesting. I’m a bit nervous about even running errands with our current weather and getting stuck or reduced to turtle mode. Do you just use the app to lock it once you’ve exited the vehicle?

I usually use the lock button on the key fob.

You need to reduce the fan speed if it's blowing like crazy or you'll have no heat. Set it to 2 or 3 maximum.

If you have any moisture in the car (like melted snow or damp mats) you'll have a bunch of fogging problems.

What is your range at -40 ?

Not OP, but our dash readout in Fairbanks when we get to -40 or below hovers about 120 miles. Never pushed it that far because it recharges every night at home.

Some people just scrape a rectangle big enough to see out of. I call those people "Tank Drivers"
