It was more so a comparison between the two opposite extremes of ultra conservative ford and Tesla. Does Jag and Volvo have a BEV that compares with the GT performance? I haven’t really looked at them.
I would bet money that ford will loosen up their performance restrictions just like they are loosening up the battery restrictions. They are just being smart about it because they don’t have the luxury of guaranteed good press.
The “I would bet money,” comment is very important.

Because for those of us with GTPE on order, that’s really where we are stuck. If not happy with the performance, are we willing to bet thousands of dollars that Ford will loosen power restrictions?

Not wishing to discount comments as I am guilty of not paying attention just as much as the next person, but at this stage it is must be pretty obvious just from the various real world data owners have captured and times posted for the GTPE that its performance falls well short, it is unable to even reach the same top speed lesser powered vehicles in a 1/4 mile, we are not talking about pounding around a track lap after lap where keeping temperatures in check is more of a challenge.

When it comes to performance, pretty much the only party piece a BEV can bring to the table it acceleration and in this play space there are well defined expectations of what is possible, In one camp you have the Tesla approach which is to play a bit fast a loose with the limitations by allowing 1 or 2 faster times to grab a headline figure before things slow down but when they do not by much and the performance is still within peoples expectations, then you have the consistency approach of Porsche that has engineering for 20+ back to back runs all being within a similar time.

With the GT / GTPE it is unable to even achieve one full powered run to its top speed, and there is nothing smart about this poor level of acceleration performance in a supposed 'performance edition' and Ford should be getting nothing but negative press for it.
Oh I’m not saying the people complaining are wrong. All my comments have stated that ford is being too conservative. More power, faster 0-60, but slower 1/4 and poor passing acceleration doesn’t make much sense on paper but they probably figured it would be perfectly fine for daily driving.
They are getting bad press about it already which will probably force their hand sooner vs waiting to “look over the data” like they did with charging curves and battery capacity.

From an acceleration perspective I do think this platform has a lot of potential, if Ford where to fully unleash the full power of the twin motors for a sustained run to the top speed while also look to implement a launch control that really takes advantage of the fine amount of control an electric motor provides it would be very impressive.

People that crave performance are already aware of the model Y performance numbers and no doubt watched the early marketing of the Kia Ev6 GT development mule just being pipped to the post in a 1/4 mile drag race by a Mclaren 570s so if Ford don't make improvements it is really is going to make the GT / GTPE a very hard sell long term, as I suspect that there is a lot less of people like me that only opted for the GTPE due to wanting the magneride vs those that did so expecting top performance and will have little incentive to hand over $70k to be dead last in the performance stakes.
