I posted this in November 2023 - tldr; after getting consistent charge faults at home, I thought my Chargepoint Home Flex had crapped out. I had been charging at 40A since I installed it, until one day it threw a fault. 100% of the time, charge fault. Eventually I figured out (by testing in on other AC chargers and with the Ford mobile charger) that it would only fault at anything higher than 32A. Weird.

So I took it Ford, who said (I'm paraphrasing here):

1) It's your crappy charger
OR
2) It's your shitty wiring / installation
OR
3) It's software, there is a fix coming
OR
4) All of the above. Oh wait - also, it's because there is no "standard" for AC charging.
PLUS
4.5) PS - we can't test it, all we have is a wee little 24A charger. Anything more and the whole dealership will blow.

I said "Oh, your dealership blows alright..."

Morons. Every. Single. One. Took it to a 2nd dealership and encountered more morons who spoke to the BEV Team who apparently came back and said "the derating issue will be fixed with an OTA...". I said "But this is a charge fault, not a....never mind." Morons.

Fast forward to this past November and I'm back at Dealership #1 getting my winter tires on and I notice some freshly installed DCFC units from Jule, and, get this: two new Wallbox chargers running at 40A! Jackpot!

So me and the junior associate sales manager mosey over and attempt to charge the car, which of course fails. Nice, I have a witness!! He's not a moron. He says "It's broken." Yep, like I said last year.

So I make an appointment, bring in the car the next week and watch their best, brightest, most talented EV Tech plug her in to the....DC fast charger. More morons.

I went out and said "Um....dude! It will charge all day on DC - it's AC that's the problem." Extremely perplexed (and not really believing me) I explained the difference between how AC charging works vs. DC charging. Let's call it a teaching moment. Begrudgingly he moved the car to the Wallbox charger, plugged in his laptop, and lo and behold it threw a charge fault.

He looked at me and said, and I quote "That's weird..." No shit.

Morons.

So today they fixed it, a year and four months later. Turns out I was right all along, thanks mostly to this forum and 10th grade Physics. I asked the Service Advisor which module they replaced but he didn't know. He knows jack shit about EVs, but least he's nice.

The moral of the story is be persistent, morons are tough to crack...

Yes, they replaced the on-board charger or SOBDM module which handles AC charging. The U3000 code means internal failure I believe. The charger is liquid cooled, so the cooling system has to be refilled with antifreeze and bled afterwards. This should’ve been a straightforward diagnosis and troubleshoot, sorry that happened to you. This is why all dealers should be required to have 40+ amp level 2 chargers for diagnostics.

The only Ford dealer on this island is in an electrical distribution zone seemingly out of the early 1950s and even they have 48 amp L2 chargers.

Thanks Lee! That's what I figured it had to be. And yes, once again I mentioned Rick when in my head I meant you. It's the similarities of the avatars that throws me.
