I believe Ford does offer a “crate” electric drive system so you could theoretically build your own EV from scratch. That would be a tremendous undertaking though.

I’ve often fantasized that, if I had infinite money, I’d commission one of those California custom car shops to create a vehicle that looks similar to a 1964-1965 Lincoln continental. It would be a monumental undertaking though.
Want to create a custom EV and make enemies all at the same time? Get a ‘57 or so Thunderbird just for the body and build an EV around that. Add in fake engine noise audible outside and you’re all set. ;)

Think of the possible frunk space though!

How about having an AWD that could switch to RWD when you need to increase your range or with highway driving then back.
Ok, just read about it in another thread and already happens when going more than 25mph. Learning something new everyday.

I'm a car and DIY enthusiast. My Mach-E is the only thing I haven't truly done much to. Yes, it is likely cheaper to buy an AWD... but where's the fun in that?

First off, do we think this is possible? And if so, what are the major groups of things you'd need to sort out?

- Obviously sourcing a front motor and the axles and other mechanical parts to physically make it work.

- Electrical. Hooking this up to power obviously important, what else?

- Software. I don't even know where to start here, but surely it can't be as simple as adding all the mechanical and electrical components and then using FORscan to trick it into thinking it was always an AWD car, right?

This is a fun thought experiment that might make it into reality. What do you all think it would take?
if you throw enough money at it, nearly ANYTHING can be done, can't begin to imagine the costs and complexity, physically putting the motor in would be easy but getting the software and modules to work would be a nightmare. IF you try it please start a thread on the process, I'd love to watch the progress. Especially when someone else is doing the work and paying for it.

But use it to harvest parts for this project lol
I’ve said it before on here and the dealer wants to give me 28,000 for my 23 GT with 8000 miles on it. Carvana given me or they offered me almost 37. I buy all my used cars from Carvana. I just bought my ice 2012 convertible Mustang from them.

for an electric car and even though I like my music loud even at the age of 70 doing this is no worse than the guy that put the $7000 sound system in his Mustang I think that’s a little extreme?

As we used to say: “It’s all cubic money. How fast will your wallet go?” ??

They’re cool-looking but not my cup of tea. Ever since I saw the 1964 (?) Lincoln continental 4 door convertible on Green Acres (as a child and in reruns on UHF TV), I’ve been mesmerized by the vehicle.

didn't that car have suicide doors? It was a great looking car, I kind of like the late 50s caddy convertibles as being the ultimate over the top car.

This is a superbad idea. Have you ever seen Monster Garage or Roadkill Garage or ViceGrip Garage? Its just going to be problems.

Where did you read that?

Our cars don’t have this capability. They can send “less power” to the front but you can’t completely disconnect the motor from the drivetrain.

One of those If I win the lottery dreams. I have thought what I would do and sounds nerdy but I would recreate my 68 mustang but have it as and EV with some Chip Foose designs added.
