Maybe this update is why I haven't received Bluecruise 1.5 yet.

Ford, yet again, needed to update their software updater? I think this is the sixth update to Ford's software update program.

Think of it as opening the door for all the updates to come…soon.

There will always be a GWM update before a sync update and then a TCU update after the sync update. Those modules software go together. So when you see that an update is preparing for future updates, they aren't lying, sometimes.

They really should have added on the note that when you get this OTA, it triggers enabling the climate controls in fordpass if you didn't already have it.

It seems strange that Ford has to update their updater continuously. Apple, Microsoft, and Red Hat don't do that, and to my knowledge, Tesla doesn't.

Microsoft does this same thing. They call it a Servicing Stack Update, and it gets pushed out before patches are released on patch Tuesdays. Its a silent update that most people don't see.

If you want a Sync update, you have to get a GWM update that is compatible with that new sync version. The changes are just not user visible so they just list it as behind the scenes updates, which it is.

I'm a Linux/Unix guy, so the GWM concept is a bit strange to me. :)

With respect to linux: it's quite common for distribution upgrades of Ubuntu to require "updating the updater". If you're using the GUI, and don't show the details, it's pretty easy to miss.
