In December Rivian announced they were opening their charging network with a slow roll out. Today I saw that Rivian reported several chargers I pass occasionally to the Department of Energy as open to the public. Checking the Rivian app, the two I checked show a non-Rivian charging price (15 cents more). There is no other info indicating that the chargers are open to others, and no ability in the app to add a non-Rivian vehicle.

Has anyone been able to use Rivian to charge yet?

PlugShare shows if they are open to non-Rivians.

For some reason I don't get the concept of making the charger network exclusive to your brand. If you are going to invest in the infrastructure then why not sell as many KwH as you can? You are a gas station. I would think you would be happy to provide the service to anything that moves.

Many Rivian locations are in charging deserts, and they built them before Tesla access existed. Why fill them up with Bolt drivers, Uber drivers, ....?

@RickMachE has a point. Rivian is selling the "experience", making their chargers the "Adventure Network" even though most Rivians bring kids to soccer practice. It's an added marketing bonus to claim that you have your own exclusive network when you're trying to convince people to part with $100k+ for a small pickup or SUV and they won't have to deal with all of that other EV trash clogging their charging experience.

I used the Rivian station in Joshua Tree, CA in April 2025. It has 12 charging posts and was a very pleasant experience. It is a good place to charge for people who want to explore Joshua Tree National Park.
