Are the Rivian-branded DCFCs truly only open to Rivian owners?

If so, I guess that puts the final nail in my desire to own one. I can't stand exclusive clubs.

I was looking forward to trying the new chargers in Kingman, but when I looked for the cost information, I found Rivian's site claims they're exclusive to Rivian owners. I was hopeful that the site was just outdated, but it seems like not.

Gross.
This seems like a weird decision to make based on chargers network exclusivity. There’s only like 10 of these things running currently anyway.

agree that I don’t like the idea of exclusive charging networks though. I just don’t think that impacts my decision on owning a Rivian

/shrug

It's not the only reason, nor even a big reason (cost, availability, and company longevity are the main reasons). I make purchase decisions based on a lot of parameters. This happens to be one of them.

Just picked up a used Rivian, this gives me more charging options on a couple of upcoming trips. Too bad their Driver+ is way behind BlueCruise.
Used, huh? Do you happen to know why the previous owner did not keep it?

So where are our Ford-branded DC chargers?

Also waiting for Hyundai-branded and BMW-branded ones too.

Too much talk and not enough building and investment. I applaud what Rivian is doing when other carmakers do squat to help the CCS charging situation.

Apparently he bought another truck, that is what the consignment dealer told me. Maybe he got an R1S. He did not get to flip it for a profit, I got it at a good price.

I am only hanging on to it until I get my Hummer EV.

I don't understand how a proprietary network helps anyone other than members of the (very small) exclusive club. It's not like we will see fewer Rivians at public chargers. Until their network is actually open to all CCS vehicles, it's not helping the CCS charging situation. And if they don't open it, their closed network breaks the entire idea of a public charging standard.

The EA charging station in Kingman won't have fewer vehicles at it, there will just be an empty Rivian charging station down the road.

Even with the massive supercharger station in Barstow, I still regularly run into the nearby public DCFCs and L2s ICED by teslas that aren't even plugged in.

I think the charging network should be completely independent of the vehicle manufacturers.

PlugShare's response to my request to be able to filter out the Rivian-only charging stations is below.

Note in the attached screenshot the RIVIAN DRIVERS ONLY note that's in the upper part of the station details. I did not notice that earlier when I was looking at the details of the station.

It does look like they're making some improvements to the filtering option, though.

Hello,

Thank you for contacting PlugShare Support.

We understand you wish to have a feature that shows "Rivian Only" locations. We know how important this would be and apologize for the inconvenience this has caused you.

Currently, we have this option available and is shown when viewing the station details of their locations. The link here shows a site where this is given: https://www.plugshare.com/location/473374

If this is in regard to a filter within the filter options, we are currently going through a re-work that will make this easier for users to sort locations to their needs. We hope to have it out soon and ask for your patience.

If you have any other questions, please let us know and we'll be happy to assist you. We hope this clarifies things and that you have a great day!

Regards,
PlugShare Support Team
